Use Assessment Studio to create, organize, and manage assessment content. From Assessment Studio, you can build items and passages, organize resources into banks, manage assessment materials, and run reports to review assessment performance and results.
Use the Builders section to create, organize, and manage your core assessment content in Assessment Studio. In Builders, you can organize assessments, questions, and items into banks, develop individual questions and items, and create assessments for student evaluation.
Use banks to organize assessment content. Banks can help group related items, questions, and assessment materials by subject, grade level, course, purpose, or district workflow.
Use the search and filtering tools to quickly locate banks in Assessment Studio. Search by bank information, such as the bank name, ID, or tags, and apply filters to narrow the results displayed on the page.
1. Access the Assessment menu and click Assessment Studio.
2. The Banks tab displays by default.
3. Click Admin Mode to view banks created by all users.
Click Admin Mode again to view banks created only by you.
4. To search for a bank, enter a keyword in the Search field. You can search by bank information, such as the bank ID, title, or tags.
5. To view only your banks, click My Banks.
6. To view banks that have been shared with you, click Shared with Me.
7. To apply additional filters, click Filters to display the filter options.
a. Select the desired values for Tag, Question Type, Standard, Bloom's Taxonomy, and Depth of Knowledge filters.
b. Click Apply to filter the Banks list according to the filters you selected.
c. To remove a filter, click the X on the filter.
d. To remove all filters, click Clear All.
e. To hide the filter options, click Filters again.
1. Access the Assessment menu and click Assessment Studio.
2. From the Banks tab, click New Bank.
3. Enter a title for the bank in the Title field.
4. Enter a description for the bank in the Description field, if needed.
5. To include assessments in the bank, in the Assessments section, you can add an existing assessment or create a new assessment.
a. To add an existing assessment, click Pick Existing.
i. Use the search bar or filters to find assessments.
ii. Select the check box next to each assessment you want to add to the bank.
iii. Click Add Selected to add the assessments to the bank.
b. To create a new assessment, click + Add Assessment.

6. To include items in the bank, in the Items section, you can add existing items or create a new item.
a. To add an existing item, click Pick Existing.
i. Use the search bar or filters to find items.
ii. Select the check box next to each item you want to add to the bank.
iii. Click Add Selected to add the items to the bank.
b. To create a new item, click + Add Item.

c. Click and drag items to rearrange their order.
d. To view an item, click Preview.
e. To edit an item, click Edit.
f. To remove an item from the bank, click Remove.
7. To include questions in the bank, in the Questions section, you can add existing questions or create a new question.
a. To add an existing question, click Pick Existing.
i. Use the search bar or filters to find questions.
ii. Select the check box next to each question you want to add to the bank.
iii. Click Add Selected to add the questions to the bank.
b. To create a new question, click + Add Question.

8. Enter one or more tags in the Tags field, if needed.
9. Click Save.
Create banks more efficiently by using the AI Assistant. Provide a description of the bank you want to build, and the AI Assistant generates the bank based on your instructions. Generated content can be reviewed and edited before the bank is saved.
1. Access the Assessment menu and click Assessment Studio.
2. Select the Banks tab.
3. At the top of the Banks page, click AI.
4. In the AI Assistant panel, enter a prompt describing the bank you want to create, or click the microphone icon to provide instructions using voice input.
The AI Assistant can help create and manage banks based on your instructions. It can create new banks, update existing banks, add or remove tags, manage assessments linked to a bank, configure sharing permissions, and create or manage sharing groups. The more specific your prompt, the more tailored the results will be.
Example Prompt:
Create a new bank named “8th Grade U.S. History.” Add the tags “History,” “Grade 8,” and “American Revolution.” Add all assessments related to the American Revolution unit. Create a sharing group for 8th Grade Social Studies Teachers and grant them edit access to the bank.
5. Click Send.
6. As the AI Assistant generates the bank, you will see AI populate fields and navigate across the different screens. You will also see status updates display in the chat.
When the AI Assistant is done, you will receive a message that shares a summary of all that the AI Assistant has done.
7. Review the generated bank information.
8. You can chat with the AI assistant to make edits, or you can make edits manually as needed.
9. When you're done building out the bank, click Save.
The Builder can be used to generate banks based on defined criteria. Select content information, question types, standards, and other filters, and the Builder searches for matching content. The generated bank can then be reviewed and adjusted before use.

3. Enter the assessment name in the Title field.
4. Select the assessment status from the Status pull-down.
Select Draft while the assessment is being developed.
Select Published when the assessment is ready for use.
Select Archived when the assessment is no longer active but should be retained for reference.
5. Enter a description in the Description text box, if needed.
6. Enter student-facing instructions in the Instructions text box, if needed.
7. At the top of the Assessments page, click Builder.
8. In the Basic Information section, select the applicable Content Subject.
9. Select the applicable Content Grade/Course.
10. Select the Language, if other than English.
11. In the Filters section, enter one or more Tags, if needed.
12. In the Question Type section, select the question types to include in the assessment.
13. Select the Difficulty, if needed.
14. Select the Item Status to determine which items are included in the search results.
15. Select the Bank to search for items from a specific bank, if needed.
16. Select Passage Mode to group questions by shared reading passage, if needed.
17. Select Exclude previously seen items to prevent items students have already seen from being included, if needed.
18. In the Standards to Assess section, select the distribution method:
Manual: Enter the number of items to include for each selected standard.
Balanced: Enter the total number of questions, and the system distributes items across selected standards as evenly as possible.
Weighted %: Enter the total number of questions and define the percentage of the assessment aligned to each selected standard.
19. Click Select Standards to define the item search by standard, and customize the distribution of the items aligned to certain standards on the assessment.
20. Search and select the check box next to the standards you want to include.
21. Click Select [x] Standards.
22. Enter or adjust the item quantity for each standard, as needed.
23. Click Save as Preset... to save the current filters, standards, and distribution settings as a preset that can be loaded when building future banks.
24. Click Preview to review the items that will be added to the bank, or click Build to generate the bank.
25. Review the generated items in the Items section of the bank.
a. Click and drag items to rearrange their order.
b. To view an item, click Preview.
c. To edit an item, click Edit.
d. To remove an item from an assessment, click Remove.
26. Enter one or more tags in the Tags field, if needed.
27. Click Save.
Preview a bank to review the assessments, items, and questions it contains without opening the bank for editing. The Preview feature provides a summary of the bank’s content, including content counts, question types, and detailed information about associated assessments, items, and questions.
1. Access the Assessment menu and click Assessment Studio.
2. From the Banks tab, find the bank you want to review, and click Preview.
3. Review a summary of the number of assessments, items, and questions in the bank.
4. In the Question Types section, view a breakdown of the question types contained within the bank and the number of questions associated with each type.
5. Click the Assessments tab to view assessments included in the bank. Information displayed includes Assessment ID, Title, Status, Number of items.
6. Click the Items tab to view items included in the bank.
7. Click the Questions tab to view questions included in the bank. Information displayed includes Question ID, Question type, Question text, and Point value.
8. After reviewing the information, click Close Preview to return to the Banks screen.
Edit a bank to update its details and manage the assessments, items, questions, and tags associated with it. Changes made to a bank are saved immediately upon clicking Save and are reflected for users who have access to the bank.
1. Access the Assessment menu and click Assessment Studio.
2. From the Banks tab, find the bank you want to edit, and click Edit.
3. Edit the info in the bank as needed.
4. Click Save to save your changes.
5. Click Cancel to discard any unsaved changes and return to the Banks screen.
Share banks with other users to provide access to collections of assessments, items, and questions. Banks can be shared with existing groups or with newly created groups based on criteria such as roles, profiles, schools, courses, districts, or individual users. Groups can be granted view-only access or edit access depending on the level of collaboration required.
1. Access the Assessment menu and click Assessment Studio.
2. Select the Banks tab.
3. Click the Share button in the Actions column.
4. Click + Add Group.
5. To share a bank with a Saved Group:
a. Find and select the desired group(s).
b. Select Can View to give the group access to view and assign the bank. Selecting Can View doesn't give access to modify bank content.
c. Select Can Edit to give the group access to edit bank content. Selecting Can Edit also grants view access.
d. Click Share to share the bank with the group.
6. To share a bank with a New Group:
a. Select the New Group tab.
b. Define the group criteria by selecting Roles, Profiles, Schools, District, Individual Users, or Courses.
c. Select Can View to give the group access to view and assign the bank. Selecting Can View doesn't give access to modify bank content.
d. Select Can Edit to give the group access to edit bank content. Selecting Can Edit also grants view access.
e. Optionally, enter a title to save a new group for future use.
f. Click Share.
7. Click Cascade Down to apply the bank sharing permissions to associated assessments, items, and questions included in the bank.
For example, if a bank is shared with a teacher group, click Cascade Down to apply the same permissions to the bank's assessments, item, and questions so the teachers can view or edit all associated content.
If Cascade Down is not selected, the teacher group may have access to the bank but not the assessments, items, and questions within it, preventing them from accessing all bank content.
Delete an individual bank when it is no longer needed within Assessment Studio. Deleting a bank removes the bank record and its association to any assessments, items, and questions contained within it.
Deleting a bank does not delete the assessments, items, or questions that were added to the bank. The content remains available within Assessment Studio and can be added to other banks as needed.
1. Access the Assessment menu and click Assessment Studio.
2. From the Banks tab, find the bank you want to delete, and click Delete.
3. In the pop-up, click Delete to remove the bank, or click Cancel to keep the bank.
When multiple banks are no longer needed, they can be deleted in a single action. This allows users to quickly remove multiple banks from Assessment Studio without deleting each bank individually. Before deleting banks, review the selected records carefully to ensure the correct banks are being removed.
Deleting a bank does not delete the assessments, items, or questions that were added to the bank. The content remains available within Assessment Studio and can be added to other banks as needed.
1. Access the Assessment menu and click Assessment Studio.
2. From the Banks tab, select the check box next to each bank you want to delete.
3. Click Delete Selected.
4. In the pop-up, click OK to remove the banks, or click Cancel to keep the banks.
Bank Version History allows users to track changes made to a bank over time. Review previous versions to see when changes were made, who made them, and what content was modified. If needed, a previous version can be restored to revert the bank to an earlier state.
1. Access the Assessment menu and click Assessment Studio.
2. Select the Banks tab.
3. Locate the bank and click Edit.
4. Scroll to the Version History section.
5. Click Version History to expand the list of available versions.
6. Review the version entries, including the version number, summary of changes, and date and time the version was saved.
7. Click a version to view the details of the changes made in that version.
8. If needed, click Restore to this Version to revert the bank to the selected version.
9. Click Save Checkpoint to create a named version of the bank before making changes. Checkpoints are stored in the Version History and can be restored later if needed.
Use assessments to deliver assessment content to students. Assessments are made up of one or more items and can be configured to meet district, school, or classroom testing needs. After creating an assessment, you can assign it to students, monitor testing progress, and review results through reports.
Create assessments manually by configuring assessment settings and adding items directly to the assessment. Items can be selected from existing content or created as needed, allowing you to build and organize the assessment before saving it.

3. Click the New Assessment button.
4. Enter the assessment name in the Title field.
5. Select the assessment status from the Status pull-down.
Select Draft while the assessment is being developed.
Select Published when the assessment is ready for use.

6. Enter a description in the Description text box, if needed.
7. Enter student-facing instructions in the Instructions text box, if needed.

9. In the Delivery Configs section, click + Add Config to add a delivery configuration, or click Edit to update an existing configuration. See Explaining Delivery Configs for more information.
10. In the Items section, click + Add Section to add a section to the assessment.
11. To include items in the assessment, in the Items section, you can add existing items or create a new item.

Create an assessment by importing a paper test. After a file is uploaded, AI analyzes the content and generates assessment items and questions that can be reviewed, edited, and organized within the assessment.

3. Click the New Assessment button.
4. Enter the assessment name in the Title field.
5. Select the assessment status from the Status pull-down.
Select Draft while the assessment is being developed.

6. Enter a description in the Description text box, if needed.

8. Drag a PDF, Word, CSV/Excel, or image file into the Import from paper test upload area, or click browse to select a file.
a. Review the AI Assistant panel as the file is processed. The AI Assistant displays progress as items and questions are created from the uploaded assessment.
b. Once processing is complete, review the summary in the AI Assistant panel.
c. Review the generated items in the Items section of the assessment.
d. Click and drag items to rearrange their order.
e. To view an item, click Preview.
f. To edit an item, click Edit.
g. To remove an item from an assessment, click Remove.
9. In the Delivery Configs section, click + Add Config to add a delivery configuration, or click Edit to update an existing configuration. See Explaining Delivery Configs for more information.

Create a delivery configuration named “Unit Test” that uses pagination mode, allows students to review answers before submitting, and shows scores after teacher release. Preview the assessment when complete.
5. Click Send.
6. As the AI Assistant generates the assessment, you will see AI populate fields and navigate across the question and item screens. You will also see status updates display in the chat.
When the AI Assistant is done, you will receive a message that shares a summary of all that the AI Assistant has done.

Delivery Configs in assessments allow you to control how the assessment behaves for students, including features such as access, tools, and scoring.
1. To access the Delivery Configs, go to the Assessment menu and click Assessment Studio.
2. Select the Assessments tab.
3. Find and select an existing assessment or create a new assessment.
4. In the Delivery Configs section, click + Add Config to add a delivery configuration, or click Edit to update an existing configuration.
Name: Enter a name for the delivery configuration, such as Standard, Extended Time, or Accommodations.
Delivery Mode: Select how questions are presented to students during the assessment.
Delivery Mode: Paginated — one question per page: Select this option to display one question per page.
Delivery Mode: Inline — all questions on one page: Select this option to display all questions on a single page.
Delivery Mode: Popup Window: Select this option to display the assessment in a separate browser window.
Delivery Mode: Full Screen: Select this option to display the assessment in full-screen mode.
Time Limit: Enter the amount of time students have to complete the assessment.
Require Answer to Advance: Select this option to require students to answer the current question before moving to the next question.
Score Visibility: Select when students can view their assessment score and results.
Score Visibility: Show immediately after submission: Select this option to display scores and results immediately after submission.
Score Visibility: Show after due date: Select this option to display scores and results after the due date.
Score Visibility: Show after teacher releases: Select this option to display scores and results after they are released by the teacher.
Score Visibility: Hidden: Select this option to hide scores and results from students.
Proctoring Level: Select the level of proctoring required for the assessment.
Proctoring Level: None: Select this option to allow students to access the assessment without additional proctoring requirements.
Proctoring Level: Standard: Select this option to require standard proctoring controls for the assessment.
Proctoring Level: Locked Browser: Select this option to require students to access the assessment using a locked browser environment.
Proctoring Level: Schoolyear: Select this option to apply Schoolyear proctoring controls to the assessment.
Proctor Code: Enter a code that students must provide to access the assessment, if required by the selected proctoring level.
Use Text-to-Speech: Select this option to enable text-to-speech support for the assessment.
TTS: Auto-read on Question Load: Select this option to automatically read question content when a question loads.
Default Accommodation Config: Select this option to designate the delivery configuration as the default accommodation configuration for the assessment.
Player Theme: Select the visual theme used during assessment delivery.
Player Theme: Default (Nimbus): Select this option to display the assessment using the standard Assessment Studioplayer theme.
Player Theme: Cambium: Select this option to display the assessment using the Cambium player theme.
Set as Default Config: Select this option to make the player theme the default configuration used for the assessment.
Calculator: Select whether students can access a calculator during the assessment.
Calculator: Disabled: Select this option to prevent students from accessing a calculator during the assessment.
Calculator: Basic: Select this option to provide students with a basic calculator for standard arithmetic operations.
Calculator: Scientific: Select this option to provide students with a scientific calculator that includes advanced mathematical functions.
Line Reader: Select this option to allow students to use the line reader tool during the assessment.
Text Highlighter: Select this option to allow students to highlight assessment content.
Answer Eliminator: Select this option to allow students to eliminate answer choices while working through questions.
Review Screen: Select this option to allow students to review their answers before submitting the assessment.
Save & Continue: Select this option to allow students to save their progress and return to the assessment later.
Zoom: Select this option to allow students to zoom in on assessment content.
Scratch Pad: Select this option to provide students with a digital scratch pad for notes and calculations.
Sticky Notes: Select this option to allow students to create notes during the assessment.
Magnifier: Select this option to allow students to magnify assessment content.
Color Themes: Select this option to allow students to choose from available color themes during the assessment.
Show Tool State in Report: Select this option to include information about student tool usage in assessment reports.
Edit an assessment to update assessment details, modify items, adjust delivery configurations, manage standards and tags, and make other changes before assigning the assessment to students. Assessment content can be updated at any time, allowing users to refine questions, settings, and organization as instructional needs change.

3. Click the Preview button in the Actions column.
4. Edit the info in the Assessment as needed.
5. Click Save to save your changes.

Preview an assessment to review the assessment content and verify that items, questions, and answer options appear as expected before the assessment is assigned to students. The Preview feature allows users to navigate through the assessment and view it from a student’s perspective without submitting responses for scoring.
1. Access the Assessment menu and click Assessment Studio.
2. Select the Assessment tab.
3. Click the Preview button in the Actions column.
4. Review the assessment content. The preview displays the assessment items and questions in the order they will be presented to students.
5. Enter sample responses to questions as needed.
6. Click Check Answer to verify whether the selected response is correct.
7. Click Show Answer Key to display the correct answer for the question.
8. Use Next to navigate through the assessment and review additional questions.
9. Review all question content, passages, images, answer options, and point values to ensure the assessment is configured as intended.
10. When finished, click the X to close the preview window and return to the Assessments tab.
Practice an assessment to experience the assessment as a student would. The Practice feature allows users to interact with questions, navigate through items, submit responses, and review the assessment flow before assigning it to students. This can be useful for validating question behavior, delivery configurations, and the overall testing experience.
1. Access the Assessment menu and click Assessment Studio.
2. Select the Assessment tab.
3. Click the Practice button in the Actions column.
4. Review the assessment content and answer questions as a student would.
5. Click Next to move through the assessment.
6. Verify that question types, passages, images, answer options, and assessment tools function as expected.
7. Continue through the assessment until all items have been reviewed.
8. Submit the assessment when finished, if applicable, to review the scoring and assessment experience.
9. Click Back to return to the Assessments tab.
Duplicate an assessment to create a copy of an existing assessment. Duplicating an assessment can save time when creating similar assessments, allowing users to reuse existing items, settings, and configurations instead of building a new assessment from scratch.
1. Access the Assessment menu and click Assessment Studio.
2. Select the Assessment tab.
3. Locate the assessment you want to copy.
4. Click Duplicate in the Actions column.
5. The system creates a copy of the assessment and adds it to the assessment list.
6. Locate the duplicated assessment and click Edit to make any necessary changes, such as updating the title, items, delivery configurations, standards, or tags.
7. Click Save to save your changes.
Share assessments with other users to collaborate on assessment development or provide access for teachers to assign assessments to students. Assessments can be shared with existing groups or with newly created groups based on criteria such as roles, profiles, schools, courses, districts, or individual users. Access can be configured as view-only or edit access depending on the level of collaboration needed.
1. Access the Assessment menu and click Assessment Studio.
2. Select the Assessment tab.
3. Option 1: Click the Share button in the Actions column.
3. Option 2: Click Edit to open an existing Assessment and click Share.
4. Click + Add Group.
5. To share an assessment with a Saved Group:
a. Find and select the desired group(s).
b. Select Can View to give the group access to view and assign the assessment. Selecting Can View doesn't give access to modify assessment content.
c. Select Can Edit to give the group access to edit assessment details, items, and delivery configurations. Selecting Can Edit also grants view access.
d. Click Share to share the assessment with the group.
6. To share an assessment with a New Group:
a. Select the New Group tab.
b. Define the group criteria by selecting Roles, Profiles, Schools, District, Individual Users, or Courses.
c. Select Can View to give the group access to view and assign the assessment. Selecting Can View doesn't give access to modify assessment content.
d. Select Can Edit to give the group access to edit assessment details, items, and delivery configurations. Selecting Can Edit also grants view access.
e. Optionally, enter a title to save a new group for future use.
f. Click Share.
7. Click Cascade Down to apply the assessment’s sharing permissions to associated items and questions included in the assessment.
For example, if an assessment is shared with a teacher group, click Cascade Down to apply the same permissions to the assessment’s items and questions so the teachers can view or edit all associated content.
If Cascade Down is not selected, the teacher group may have access to the assessment but not the items and questions within it, preventing them from accessing all assessment content.
Delete an assessment when it is no longer needed within Assessment Studio. Removing an assessment helps keep assessment lists organized and prevents outdated or unused assessments from being assigned to students.
1. Access the Assessment menu and click Assessment Studio.
2. Select the Assessment tab.
3. Click the Delete button in the Actions column.
4. In the pop-up, click Yes to remove the Assessment, or click Cancel to keep the Assessment.
Delete multiple assessments at the same time to quickly remove assessments that are no longer needed. This option can be useful when cleaning up outdated, duplicate, or unused assessments from Assessment Studio.
1. Access the Assessment menu and click Assessment Studio.
2. Select the Assessment tab.
3. Select the check box next to each assessment you want to delete.
4. Click Delete Selected.
5. In the pop-up, click OK to remove the assessments, or click Cancel to keep the assessments.
Translate assessment titles, descriptions, and instructions into supported languages to provide students with localized assessment content.
To translate item titles, passage titles, and passage content, see Translating Item and Passage Content.
To translate questions, see Translating Question Content.
1. Access the Assessment menu and click Assessment Studio.
2. Navigate to the Assessments tab and open the assessment that will be translated.
3. Click Translate.
4. Select the language tab for the language into which the assessment content should be translated.
5. Translate content using one of the following methods:
a. Click the AI button next to an individual field to translate only that field.
b. Click AI Translate All to translate all available assessment content for the selected language.
6. Review the translated content and make edits as needed.
If the translated content results in more or less characters than the original English version, a note below each box will display the character difference.
7. Repeat the process for additional languages as needed.
8. Click Save Translations.
A message will display confirming that translations have been saved.
9. Click the X in the top right to exit out of the translations.
Assessment Version History allows users to track changes made to an assessment over time. Review previous versions to see when changes were made, who made them, and what content was modified. If needed, a previous version can be restored to revert the assessment to an earlier state.
1. Access the Assessment menu and click Assessment Studio.
2. Select the Assessment tab.
3. Locate the assessment and click Edit.
4. Scroll to the Version History section.
5. Click Version History to expand the list of available versions.
6. Review the version entries, including the version number, summary of changes, and date and time the version was saved.
7. Click a version to view the details of the changes made in that version.
8. If needed, click Restore to this Version to revert the assessment to the selected version.
9. Click Save Checkpoint to create a named version of the assessment before making changes. Checkpoints are stored in the Version History and can be restored later if needed.
Use the search and filtering tools to quickly locate assessments in Assessment Studio. Search by information, such as the assessment name, ID, or tags, and apply filters to narrow the results displayed on the page.
1. Access the Assessment menu and click Assessment Studio.
2. Select the Assessments tab.
3. Click Admin Mode to view assessments created by all users.
Click Admin Mode again to view assessments created only by you.
4. To search for an assessment, enter a keyword in the Search field. You can search by the assessment ID, title, or tags.
5. To apply additional filters, click Filters.
a. Select the desired values for Ownership, Status, Tag, Bank, Question Type, Standard, Bloom's Taxonomy, and Depth of Knowledge filters.
b. Click Apply to filter the assessments list according to the filters you selected.
c. To remove a filter, click the X on the filter.
d. To remove all filters, click Clear All.
e. To hide the filter options, click Filters.
Use items to build assessment content. Items serve as containers for questions and can include passages, images, audio, video, and other supporting materials. After creating an item, you can organize it into banks and add it to assessments.
1. Access the Assessment menu and click Assessment Studio.
2. Select the Items tab.
3. Click New Item.
4. Enter the item name in the Title field.
5. Select the item status from the Status pull-down.
6. Select the scoring type from the Scoring Type pull-down.
7. To include a passage in the item, in the Passages section, you can add an existing passage or create a new passage.
a. To add an existing passage, click Link Existing.
i. Use the search bar to find and select a passage.
b. To create a new passage, click Create New.
i. Enter a Passage title.
ii. Enter the content in the text editor.
iii. Use the formatting options as needed.
iv. Click Save Passages.
8. To include questions in the bank, in the Questions section, you can add existing questions or create a new question.
a. To add an existing question, click Pick Existing.
i. Use the search bar or filters to find questions.
ii. Select the check box next to each question you want to add to the bank.
iii. Click Add Selected to add the questions to the bank.
b. To create a new question, click + Add Question.

c. Click and drag questions to rearrange their order.
d. To view a question, click Preview.
e. To edit a question, click Edit.
f. To remove a question from the item, click Remove.
9. Enter one or more tags in the Tags field, if needed.
10. Click Save.
Create items more efficiently by using the AI Assistant. Provide a description of the item you want to build, and the AI Assistant generates the item based on your instructions. Generated content can be reviewed and edited before the item is saved.
1. Access the Assessment menu and click Assessment Studio.
2. Select the Items tab.
3. At the top of the Items page, click AI.
4. In the AI Assistant panel, enter a prompt describing the item you want to create, or click the microphone icon to provide instructions using voice input.
The AI Assistant can create new items, open or close item editors, add or remove tags, and preview items. Include specific details in your prompt to help the AI create and organize item content that meets your needs.
Example Prompt:
Create a new item titled “Causes of the American Revolution”, and with a Draft status. Add two multiple choice questions and one short answer question. Tag the item with “History,” “Grade 8,” and “American Revolution,” then open the item editor so I can review the content.
5. Click Send.
6. As the AI Assistant generates the bank, you will see AI populate fields and navigate across the different screens. You will also see status updates display in the chat.
When the AI Assistant is done, you will receive a message that shares a summary of all that the AI Assistant has done.
7. Review the generated item information.
8. You can chat with the AI assistant to make edits, or you can make edits manually as needed.
9. When you're done building out the item, click Save.
Create passages to provide students with shared content that can be referenced by one or more questions within an item. Passages can contain formatted text, images, links, tables, and other instructional content, making them ideal for reading comprehension, document-based, and stimulus-driven assessments.
1. Access the Assessment menu and click Assessment Studio.
2. Select the Items tab.
3. From the Items tab, locate the item and click Edit, or create a new item.
4. In the Passages section, click Create New.
5. Enter a title for the passage.
6. Type or paste the passage content into the text editor.
7. Use the formatting tools to apply text formatting, create lists, insert tables, add links, or insert images or videos as needed.
8. Click Save Passage.
9. Select a Display Position to determine where the passage will appear in relation to the item:
Select Left to display the passage to the left of the item.
Select Above to display the passage above the item.
Select Right to display the passage to the right of the item.
10. Click Save to save the item.
Link an existing passage to an item when the passage has already been created and can be reused. Reusing existing passages helps maintain consistency across items and reduces the need to recreate content that is used in multiple assessments.
1. Access the Assessment menu and click Assessment Studio.
2. Select the Items tab.
3. From the Items tab, locate the item and click Edit, or create a new item.
4. In the Passages section, click Link Existing.
5. Begin typing the title of the passage in the search box.
6. Select the passage from the list of suggested results.
7. Review the passage preview to confirm the correct passage has been linked.
8. Select a Display Position to determine where the passage will appear in relation to the item:
Select Left to display the passage to the left of the item.
Select Above to display the passage above the item.
Select Right to display the passage to the right of the item.
9. Click Save to save the item.
Translate item titles, passage titles, and passage content into supported languages to provide students with localized item content.

Add tags to items to make them easier to search, filter, and organize. Tags can be used to identify item details such as subject, grade level, skill, topic, Bloom’s Taxonomy level, Depth of Knowledge, or other district-defined categories.
1. Access the Assessment menu and click Assessment Studio.
2. Select the Items tab.
3. Locate the item and click Edit.
4. Scroll to the Tags section.
5. Click in the Tags box and begin typing the tag.
6. Select a suggested tag, or continue typing and click Create “[tag]” to create a new tag.
7. Repeat this process to add additional tags as needed.
8. Click Save.
Edit existing items to update content, modify scoring settings, manage attached passages and questions, update metadata, or make other revisions as assessment requirements change. Changes made to an item are reflected anywhere the item is used, helping ensure content remains accurate and consistent across assessments.
1. Access the Assessment menu and click Assessment Studio.
2. From the Items tab, find the item you want to edit, and click Edit.
3. Edit the info in the item as needed.
4. Click Save to save your changes.
5. Click Cancel to discard any unsaved changes and return to the Items screen.
Preview an item to review its content and verify that questions, passages, scoring, and answer keys are configured correctly before the item is added to an assessment or shared with other users. The preview displays the item as it will appear to students and allows you to test responses and view correct answers.
1. Access the Assessment menu and click Assessment Studio.
2. Select the Items tab, and find an item.
3. Click the Preview button in the Actions column.
4. Review the item content. The preview displays the item content in the order they will be presented to students.
5. Enter sample responses to questions as needed.
6. Click Check Answer to verify whether the selected response is correct.
7. Click Show Answer Key to display the correct answer for the question.
8. Use Next to navigate through the assessment and review additional questions.
9. Review all question content, passages, images, answer options, and point values to ensure the item is configured as intended.
10. When finished, click the X to close the preview window and return to the Items screen.
Duplicate an item to create a copy that can be modified without affecting the original. Duplicating items is useful when creating similar content, making variations of an existing item, or reusing passages and questions while preserving the original item for future use.

The Questions tab in Assessment Studio allows you to create and manage assessment questions used throughout the platform. From this screen, you can search for existing questions, preview content, edit question details, and create new questions using a variety of question types. Questions can be assigned to item banks, translated into supported languages, and reused across multiple assessments.
1. Access the Assessment menu and click Assessment Studio.
2. Select the Questions tab.
3. Click New Question.
4. Select a Question Type.
5. Configure the question settings. Available options vary based on the selected question type.
The following steps describe the configuration options for a Multiple Choice question. For help with configuring a different question type, see Configuring Question Types.
6. For a Multiple Choice question, enter the Title and a question prompt in the Question Text box.
7. In the Points field, enter the number of points the student should receive for answering the question correctly. By default, questions are assigned a value of 1 point.
8. Select Multiple Correct Answers to allow more than one correct response, as needed.
9. In the Max Selections Allowed field, enter the maximum number of response options students can select, as needed.
10. Select Shuffle to shuffle the response options when the question is displayed to students.
11. Select Show Distractor Rationales to enter rationales for each response option and a general rationale for the question.
12. Configure Answer Options.
a. Enter the response options that should display for students.
b. Click the circle next to the correct response option. The selected response is highlighted green to indicate the correct answer.
c. If Allow Partial Credit is selected, enter the number of points each option is worth.
d. Click Rationale to enter a rationale for the response option.
e. Click the X icon next to a response option to delete it, as needed.
f. Click + Add Option to add additional response options, as needed.
13. Select the Auto-grade check box to automatically score the question when a student submits an answer.
14. Select the Shuffle Answers check box to display answer choices in a different order for each student.
15. Select the applicable Bloom’s Taxonomy level from the pull-down, as needed.
16. Select the applicable Depth of Knowledge level from the pull-down, as needed.
17. Click + Add to Bank to add the question to an item bank.
18. Click + Attach Standard to search for a standard to the question.
a. Click the + Add button to attach the standard to the question.
19. Click + Save Checkpoint to save a version of the question in the Version History section. See Reviewing Question Version History for more information.
a. Enter a Label, if desired.
b. Click Save Checkpoint.
20. At the top of the screen, click Preview to preview the question. See Previewing a Question for more information.
21. Click Translate to add translations for the question, as needed. See Translating Question Content for more information.
22. Click Save to save the question.
23. The new question displays at the top of the Questions tab.

When creating a question, select the question type that best aligns with the skill or content being assessed. Each question type includes its own configuration options, scoring settings, and response formats. The following sections describe the available question types and explain how to configure each one.
The Multiple Choice question type allows students to select one or more correct answers from a list of response options. This question type can be automatically scored. See Creating Questions for more information on configuring the Multiple Choice question type.
The True/False question type allows students to determine whether a statement is true or false. This question type supports automatic scoring.

4. Select True/False from the Question Type list.

6. Enter the statement or prompt in the Question Text field.

8. Select True or False to indicate the correct answer.
9. Configure any additional question settings, such as Auto-grade, Shuffle Answers, Bloom’s Taxonomy, Depth of Knowledge, banks, or standards, as needed. See Creating Questions for more details.
10. Click Save.
The Essay question type allows students to respond to a prompt using an extended written response. This question type requires manual scoring.
1. Access the Assessment menu and click Assessment Studio.
2. Select the Questions tab.
3. Click New Question.
4. Select Essay from the Question Type list.
5. Enter a Title and then enter the writing prompt or question in the Question Text field.
6. In the Points field, enter the number of points the question is worth. By default, questions are assigned a value of 1 point.
7. In the Word Limit field, enter the maximum number of words students can submit, as needed. Leave the setting as No Limit to allow responses of any length.
8. Select Include Scoring Rubric to add a rubric for evaluating student responses.
9. Configure any additional question settings, such as Shuffle Answers, Bloom’s Taxonomy, Depth of Knowledge, banks, or standards, as needed. See Creating Questions for more details.
Essay questions require manual review and scoring.
10. Click Save.
The Inline Entry question type allows students to complete one or more blanks within a passage or question. Blanks can be configured as a choice list, free-text response, numeric entry, or math entry. This question type supports automatic scoring.
1. Access the Assessment menu and click Assessment Studio.
2. Select the Questions tab.
3. Click New Question.
4. Select Inline Entry from the Question Type list.
5. Enter a Title and then enter the question prompt or passage in the Question Text field.
6. In the Points field, enter the number of points the question is worth. By default, questions are assigned a value of 1 point.
7. Select Allow Partial Credit to award partial credit for questions with multiple answer blanks. When selected, students earn points for each correctly completed blank instead of receiving credit only when all blanks are answered correctly.
7. Select a word or position the cursor where a blank should appear and click + Add Bank.
8. Select and set up a response type for each blank.
a. Select Choice List to allow students to choose an answer from a list of options.
i. To configure a Choice List blank, select Choice List from the blank type pull-down.
ii. Enter each answer option in the option fields.
iii. Click + Add Option to add more answer options, as needed.
iv. Select the correct answer from the Select correct answer pull-down.
v. Click the X icon next to an answer option to delete it, as needed.
b. Select Free Text to allow students to enter a text response.
i. To configure a Free Text blank, select Free Text from the blank type pull-down.
ii. Enter the correct answer in the text field.
iii. Click the X icon to delete the blank as needed.
c. Select Numeric Entry to allow students to enter a numeric response.
i. To configure a Numeric Entry blank, select Numeric Entry from the blank type pull-down.
ii. Enter the correct answer in the text field.
iii. Click the X icon to delete the blank as needed.
d. Select Math Entry to allow students to enter a mathematical expression or equation.
i. To configure a Math Entry blank, select Math Entry from the blank type pull-down.
ii. Enter the correct answer in the text field.
iii. Click the X icon to delete the blank as needed.
9. Click + Add Bank to add additional blanks, as needed.
10. Configure any additional question settings, such as Auto-grade, Shuffle Answers, Bloom’s Taxonomy, Depth of Knowledge, banks, or standards, as needed. See Creating Questions for more details.
11. Click Save.
The Matching question type allows students to match items in one column to corresponding items in another column. This question type supports automatic scoring.
1. Access the Assessment menu and click Assessment Studio.
2. Select the Questions tab.
3. Click New Question.
4. Select Matching from the Question Type list.
5. Enter a Title, and then enter the statement or prompt in the Question Text field.
6. In the Points field, enter the number of points the question is worth. By default, questions are assigned a value of 1 point.
7. In the Scoring pull-down, select how the question should be scored.
Per Pair (Partial Credit) awards points for each correctly matched pair.
All Correct (All or Nothing) requires all pairs to be matched correctly before points are awarded.
8. Select Each option usable only once to prevent students from using the same answer choice multiple times.
9. In the Matching Pairs section, enter the prompt or term in the left field.
10. Enter the corresponding match in the right field.
11. Click + Add Pair to add additional matching pairs, as needed.
12. Drag and drop the matching pairs to reorder them, as needed.
13. Click the X icon to delete a matching pair, as needed.
14. Configure any additional question settings, such as Auto-grade, Shuffle Answers, Bloom’s Taxonomy, Depth of Knowledge, banks, or standards, as needed. See Creating Questions for more details.
15. Click Save.
The Ordering question type allows students to arrange items in the correct sequence or order. This question type supports automatic scoring.

4. Select Ordering from the Question Type list.

The Numeric question type allows students to enter a numeric response. This question type supports automatic scoring.

5. Enter a Title, and then the statement or prompt in the Question Text field.
6. In the Points field, enter the number of points the question is worth. By default, questions are assigned a value of 1 point.

8. In the Tolerance (±) field, enter the acceptable range above or below the correct answer that should also be scored as correct.
For example, if the correct answer is 60 and the tolerance is set to 1, responses of 59, 60, and 61 are scored as correct.
9. Configure any additional question settings, such as Auto-grade, Shuffle Answers, Bloom’s Taxonomy, Depth of Knowledge, banks, or standards, as needed. See Creating Questions for more details.
10. Click Save.
The Short Answer question type allows students to enter a brief text response. This question type supports automatic scoring when a correct answer is provided. If no correct answer is entered, responses must be scored manually.
1. Access the Assessment menu and click Assessment Studio.
2. Select the Questions tab.
3. Click New Question.
4. Select Short Answer from the Question Type list.
5. Enter the statement or prompt in the Question Text field.

8. Select Case Sensitive to require students to match the capitalization of the correct answer exactly.

The Match Table question type allows students to match items in rows to one or more column options. This question type supports automatic scoring.

The Selectable Text question type allows students to select specific words, sentences, or lines of text in response to a prompt. This question type supports automatic scoring.
1. Access the Assessment menu and click Assessment Studio.

4. Select Selectable Text from the Question Type list.
5. Enter a Title.
6. In the Points field, enter the number of points the question is worth. The Points field automatically updates based on how you configure the scoring and selectable text.
7. In the Tokens pull-down, select how students will interact with the text:
- Word: Students select individual words.
- Sentence: Students select entire sentences.
- Line: Students select entire lines of text.
8. In the Scoring pull-down, select how the question should be scored:
- Per Correct Selection awards points for each correct selection.
- All Correct (All or Nothing) requires all correct selections before points are awarded.
9. Select Allow Multiple Selections to allow students to select more than one word, sentence, or line, as needed.
10. Enter the instructions for the question in the Question Text field.
11. Enter or paste the passage in the Selectable Text field.
12. Click Mark Clickable and select the text students should be able to choose when answering the question. Clickable text is highlighted in blue.
13. Click Mark Correct and select the text that should be scored as the correct answer. Correct text is highlighted in green.

The Math question type allows students to enter a mathematical expression or equation as their response. This question type supports automatic scoring.

6. Enter the Question Text.

The correct answer must be entered using LaTeX syntax to support automatic scoring.

12. Click Save.
The Cartesian Graph question type allows students to plot points and draw geometric figures on a coordinate plane. This question type supports automatic scoring.
1. Access the Assessment menu and click Assessment Studio.
2. Select the Questions tab.
3. Click New Question.
4. Select Cartesian Graph from the Question Type list.
5. Enter the Title, and then a statement or prompt in the Question Text field.
6. In the Points field, enter the number of points the question is worth. By default, questions are assigned a value of 1 point.
7. In the Axis Configuration section, configure the graph settings:
a. In X Min and X Max fields, define the minimum and maximum values displayed on the x-axis.
b. In Y Min and Y Max fields, define the minimum and maximum values displayed on the y-axis.
c. In X Label and Y Label fields, enter labels for the x-axis and y-axis.
d. In X Grid and Y Grid fields, define the spacing of grid lines.
e. In X Tick and Y Tick fields, define the spacing of tick marks.
f. In X Precision and Y Precision fields, define the number of decimal places displayed on each axis.
8. In the Tools Available to Student section, select the drawing tools students can use when answering the question.
Only the tools selected in the Tools Available to Student section are available when students answer the question.
a. Select the Point tool to allow students to place individual points on the coordinate plane.
b. Select the Line tool to allow students to draw a line that extends infinitely in both directions.
i. In the Line pull-down, select the style of the line:
Select Solid if the line should be a solid line.
Select Dashed if the line should be a dotted line.
c. Select the Segment tool to allow students to draw a line segment with defined endpoints.
i. In the Segment pull-down, select the style of the segment.
Select Solid if the segment should be solid.
Select Dashed if the segment should be dotted.
d. Select the Ray tool to allow students to draw a ray that begins at a point and extends infinitely in one direction.
i. In the Ray pull-down, select the style of the ray.
Select Solid if the ray should be solid.
Select Dashed if the ray should be dotted.
e. Select the Circle tool to allow students to draw circles on the coordinate plane.
f. Select the Polygon tool to allow students to draw closed shapes consisting of multiple connected line segments.
g. Select the Parabola tool to allow students to draw a parabola on the coordinate plane.
h. Select the Shade Region tool to allow students to shade a selected area of the coordinate plane.
9. In the Draw Correct Answer section, use the available tools to create the correct graph, figure, or shape.
10. Click Undo to remove the most recent action, as needed.
11. Click Delete to remove the selected graph element, as needed.

The Gridded Response question type allows students to enter a numeric response by filling in a grid. This question type supports automatic scoring.

The Number Line question type allows students to identify points or intervals on a number line. This question type supports automatic scoring.

4. Select Number Line from the Question Type list.
5. Enter a Title, and then enter the statement or prompt in the Question Text field.
6. In the Points field, enter the number of points the question is worth. By default, questions are assigned a value of 1 point.
7. In the Number Line Configuration section, configure the number line settings:
For the Min field, enter the minimum value displayed on the number line.
For the Max field, enter the maximum value displayed on the number line.
For the Tick field, enter the interval between tick marks.
8. Select Show Tick Labels to display values along the number line.
9. In the Answers pull-down, select the type of response students must provide.
Select Point(s) to allow students to identify one or more specific points on the number line.
Select Range to allow students to identify an interval or range of values on the number line.
10. In the Correct Answer(s) section, enter the correct value or values.
11. Click + Add Answer to add additional correct answers, as needed.
12. Click the X icon next to an answer to delete it, as needed.
13. Review the Preview section to verify the appearance of the number line.

The Drawing question type allows students to create a freehand drawing or diagram using a set of drawing tools. This question type requires manual scoring.
1. Access the Assessment menu and click Assessment Studio.
2. Select the Questions tab.
3. Click New Question.
4. Select Drawing from the Question Type list.
5. Enter the Title, and then enter the statement or prompt in the Question Text field.
6. In the Points field, enter the number of points the question is worth. By default, questions are assigned a value of 1 point.
7. In the Canvas Width field, enter the width of the drawing area in pixels.
8. In the Canvas Height field, enter the height of the drawing area in pixels.
9. In the Background Image URL field, enter the URL of an image to display on the canvas, as needed.
10. In the Drawing Tools section, select the tools students can use when responding to the question.
a. Select Pen to allow students to draw freehand lines.
b. Select Eraser to allow students to erase portions of their drawing.
c. Select Line to allow students to draw straight lines.
d. Select Rectangle to allow students to draw rectangular shapes.
e. Select Circle to allow students to draw circular shapes.

Drawing questions require manual review and scoring.

The Hotspot question type allows students to select one or more designated areas within an image. This question type supports automatic scoring.
1. Access the Assessment menu and click Assessment Studio.
2. Select the Questions tab.
3. Click New Question.
4. Select Hotspot from the Question Type list.
5. Enter the Title, and then enter a statement or prompt in the Question Text field.
6. In the Points field, enter the number of points the question is worth. By default, questions are assigned a value of 1 point.
7. Option 1: To add an image via URL, enter a URL in the Image URL field.
7. Option 2: To add an image via a file, click Upload, and then find and upload the desired image.
8. In the Max Choices field, enter the maximum number of hotspot regions students can select. Leave the field blank to allow unlimited selections.
9. In the Hotspot Regions section, click + Add Region.
10. From the pull-down, select Rectangle or Circle for the shape.
11. Drag the hotspot region to the desired location.
Alternatively, enter the coordinates and dimensions for the desired location.
12. Enter a label for the hotspot region, as needed.
13. Select Correct to designate the region as a correct answer.
14. Repeat the process to add additional hotspot regions, as needed.
15. Click the X icon to delete a hotspot region, as needed.
16. Configure any additional question settings, such as Auto-grade, Shuffle Answers, Bloom’s Taxonomy, Depth of Knowledge, banks, or standards, as needed. See Creating Questions for more details.
17. Click Save.
The Gap Match question type allows students to drag and drop answer choices into blanks within a passage or statement. This question type supports automatic scoring.
1. Access the Assessment menu and click Assessment Studio.
2. Select the Questions tab.
3. Click New Question.
4. Select Gap Match from the Question Type list.
5. Enter the Title, and then enter a statement or prompt in the Question Text field.
6. In the Points field, enter the number of points the question is worth. By default, questions are assigned a value of 1 point.
7. In the Stem Text field, enter the passage or statement.
8. Insert [GAP] wherever a blank should appear.
9. In the Answer Options (Draggable Tiles) section, enter the answer choices students can drag into the blanks.
10. In the Max Use field, enter the maximum number of times an answer choice can be used.
11. Click + Add Option to add additional answer choices, as needed.
12. Click the X icon next to an answer choice to delete it, as needed.
13. In the Correct Answers section, select the correct answer for each blank using the corresponding pull-down.
14. Configure any additional question settings, such as Auto-grade, Shuffle Answers, Bloom’s Taxonomy, Depth of Knowledge, banks, or standards, as needed. See Creating Questions for more details.
15. Click Save.
The Associate question type allows students to create associations between items in two sets. This question type supports automatic scoring.
1. Access the Assessment menu and click Assessment Studio.
2. Select the Questions tab.
3. Click New Question.
4. Select Associate from the Question Type list.
5. Enter the Title, and then a statement or prompt in the Question Text field.
6. In the Points field, enter the number of points the question is worth. By default, questions are assigned a value of 1 point.
7. In the Set A section, enter the items students will associate.
8. Click + Add A Item to add additional items to Set A, as needed.
9. In the Set B section, enter the corresponding items students will associate with Set A.
10. Click + Add B Item to add additional items to Set B, as needed.
11. Click the X icon next to an item to delete it, as needed.
12. In the Correct Pairs section, create the correct associations:
a. Click an item from Set A.
b. Click the corresponding item from Set B.
The pair is added to the list of correct associations.
13. Repeat the process to create additional associations, as needed.
14. Click the X icon next to an association to remove it, as needed.
15. In the Min Associations field, enter the minimum number of associations students must create.
16. In the Max Associations field, enter the maximum number of associations students can create.
Set Max Associations to 1 to require each item to be associated with only one corresponding item.
17. Configure any additional question settings, such as Auto-grade, Shuffle Answers, Bloom’s Taxonomy, Depth of Knowledge, banks, or standards, as needed. See Creating Questions for more details.
18. Click Save.
The File Upload question type allows students to upload one or more files in response to a prompt. This question type requires manual scoring and review by a teacher or administrator.
1. Access the Assessment menu and click Assessment Studio.
2. Select the Questions tab.
3. Click New Question.
4. Select File Upload from the Question Type pull-down.
5. Enter the Title, and then instructions or a prompt in the Question Text field.
6. In the Points field, enter the number of points the question is worth. By default, questions are assigned a value of 1 point.
7. Select the file types students are permitted to upload. Supported file types include PDF, Word (.docx), Text (.txt), PNG Image, and JPEG Image.
8. In the Max File Size field, enter the maximum file size students can upload.
9. Configure any additional question settings, such as Shuffle Answers, Bloom’s Taxonomy, Depth of Knowledge, banks, or standards, as needed. See Creating Questions for more details.
File Upload questions require manual review and scoring.
10. Click Save.
Translate questions and answer options into supported languages to provide students with localized question content.
To translate assessments titles, descriptions, and instructions, see Translating Assessment Content.
To translate item titles and passages, see Translating Item and Passage Content.
1. Access the Assessment menu and click Assessment Studio.
2. Navigate to the Questions tab and click Edit next to open the question that will be translated.
3. Click Translate.
4. Select the language tab for the language into which the question content should be translated.
5. Translate content using one of the following methods:
a. Click the AI button next to an individual field to translate only that field.
b. Click AI Translate All to translate all available question content for the selected language.
6. Review the translated content and make edits as needed.
If the translated content results in more or less characters than the original English version, a note below each box will display the character difference.
7. Repeat the process for additional languages as needed.
8. Click Save Translations.
A message will display confirming that translations have been saved.
9. Click the X in the top right to exit out of the translations.
Questions can be tagged to support organization and searchability within Assessment Studio. Apply tags to categorize questions by subject, skill, grade level, instructional standard, or other criteria relevant to your district.
1. Access the Assessment menu and click Assessment Studio.
2. Select the Questions tab.
3. Locate the question and click Edit.
4. Scroll to the Tags section.
5. Click in the Tags box and begin typing the tag.
6. Select a suggested tag, or continue typing and click Create “[tag]” to create a new tag.
7. Repeat this process to add additional tags as needed.
8. Click Save.
Edit existing questions to update question content, answer choices, scoring settings, standards, translations, and other question-specific details. Changes made to a question are reflected anywhere the question is used, helping ensure assessment content remains accurate and up to date.
1. Access the Assessment menu and click Assessment Studio.
2. From the Questions tab, find the question you want to edit, and click Edit.
3. Edit the info in the question as needed.
4. Click Save to save your changes.
5. Click Cancel to discard any unsaved changes and return to the Questions screen.
Preview a question to review its content and verify that answer choices, scoring, formatting, and correct answers are configured correctly. The preview displays the question as it will appear to students and allows you to test responses and view the answer key before the question is added to an item or used in an assessment.
1. Access the Assessment menu and click Assessment Studio.
2. Select the Questions tab, and find a question.
3. Click the Preview button in the Actions column.
4. Review the question content. The preview displays the question content in the order they will be presented to students.
5. Enter sample responses to questions as needed.
6. Click Check Answer to verify whether the selected response is correct.
7. Click Show Answer Key to display the correct answer for the question.
8. Use Next to navigate through the assessment and review additional questions.
9. When finished, click the X to close the preview window and return to the Items screen.
Duplicate a question to create a copy that can be modified without affecting the original. Duplicating questions is useful when creating similar questions, making variations of existing content, or reusing question structures while preserving the original question for future use.
1. Access the Assessment menu and click Assessment Studio.
2. Select the Questions tab.
3. Locate the question you want to copy.
4. Click Duplicate in the Actions column.
5. The system creates a copy of the question and adds it to the question list.
6. Locate the duplicated question and click Edit to make any necessary changes.
7. Click Save to save your changes.
Share questions with other users to support collaboration and content development across the district. Questions can be shared with existing groups or with newly created groups based on criteria such as roles, profiles, schools, courses, districts, or individual users. Groups can be granted view-only access or edit access depending on the level of collaboration required.
1. Access the Assessment menu and click Assessment Studio.
2. Select the Questions tab.
3. Option 1: Click the Share button in the Actions column.
3. Option 2: Click Edit to open an existing item, and click Share.
4. Click + Add Group.
5. To share a question with a Saved Group:
a. Find and select the desired group(s).
b. Select Can View to give the group access to view and assign the question. Selecting Can View doesn't give access to modify question content.
c. Select Can Edit to give the group access to edit question content. Selecting Can Edit also grants view access.
d. Click Share to share the question with the group.
6. To share a question with a New Group:
a. Select the New Group tab.
b. Define the group criteria by selecting Roles, Profiles, Schools, District, Individual Users, or Courses.
c. Select Can View to give the group access to view and assign the question. Selecting Can View doesn't give access to modify question content.
d. Select Can Edit to give the group access to edit question content. Selecting Can Edit also grants view access.
e. Optionally, enter a title to save a new group for future use.
f. Click Share.
Delete questions that are no longer needed to keep question libraries organized and up to date. Before deleting a question, review where it is being used, as deleting a question may affect items and assessments that reference the question.
1. Access the Assessment menu and click Assessment Studio.
2. Select the Questions tab, and find a question.
3. Click the Delete button in the Actions column.
4. In the pop-up, click Yes to remove the question, or click Cancel to keep the question.
Delete multiple questions at the same time to quickly remove questions that are no longer needed. This option can be useful when cleaning up outdated, duplicate, or unused questions from Assessment Studio.
1. Access the Assessment menu and click Assessment Studio.
2. Select the Questions tab.
3. Select the check box next to each question you want to delete.
4. Click Delete Selected.
5. In the pop-up, click OK to remove the questions, or click Cancel to keep the questions.
Question Version History allows users to track changes made to a question over time. Review previous versions to see when changes were made, who made them, and what content was modified. If needed, a previous version can be restored to revert the question to an earlier state.
1. Access the Assessment menu and click Assessment Studio.
2. Select the Questions tab.
3. Locate the question and click Edit.
4. Scroll to the Version History section.
5. Click Version History to expand the list of available versions.
6. Review the version entries, including the version number, summary of changes, and date and time the version was saved.
7. Click a version to view the details of the changes made in that version.
8. If needed, click Restore to this Version to revert the question to the selected version.
9. Click Save Checkpoint to create a named version of the question before making changes. Checkpoints are stored in the Version History and can be restored later if needed.
Use the search and filtering tools to quickly locate questions in Assessment Studio. Search by question information, such as the question name, ID, or tags, and apply filters to narrow the results displayed on the page.
1. Access the Assessment menu and click Assessment Studio.
2. Select the Questions tab.
3. Click Admin Mode to view questions created by all users.
Click Admin Mode again to view questions created only by you.
4. To search for a question, enter a keyword in the Search field. You can search by question information, such as ID, title, or tags.
5. To apply additional filters, click Filters.
a. Select the desired values for Ownership, Bank, Tag, Type, Standard, Bloom's Taxonomy, and Depth of Knowledge filters.
b. Click Apply to filter the questions list according to the filters you selected.
c. To remove a filter, click the X on the filter.
d. To remove all filters, click Clear All.
e. To hide the filter options, click Filters.
Use the Assign tab to deliver assessments to students. When creating an assignment, you select the assessment, configure testing settings such as availability dates and attempt limits, and define the group of students who will receive the assessment.
1. Go to the Assessment menu and click Assessment Studio.
2. Select the Assign tab.
3. Click New Assignment.
4. In the Label field, enter a name for the assignment. This field is optional and can be used to distinguish assignments that use the same assessment.
5. In the Assessment field, select the assessment to assign.
6. In the Tool Config field, select the delivery configuration that should be used for the assignment. To create a new configuration, click + New Config. See Creating Assessments > Explaining Delivery Configs for more information.
7. In the Default Student Schedule section, configure the assignment settings as needed:
Release Date: Enter the date the assignment becomes visible to students.
Release Time: Enter the time the assignment becomes visible to students.
Start Date and Start Time: Enter when students can begin taking the assessment.
End Date and End Time: Enter when the assessment will no longer be available.
Time Limit: Enter the amount of time students have to complete the assessment.
Max Attempts: Enter the maximum number of attempts allowed.
Allow Retake: Select this option to allow students to retake the assessment.
Restrict to Course Times: Select this option to limit assessment access to the student’s scheduled course period.
Retake Wait: Enter the amount of time students must wait before attempting a retake.
8. In the Audience section, select criteria such as School, Grade Level, Teacher, Period, Course, Section, or Student to identify the students who should receive the assignment.
9. Optionally, select Narrow Options by Selection to limit available filter options based on previous selections.
10. Click Find Students.
11. Review the list of students returned by the selected criteria.
12. Click Assign.
Student Groups allow you to create reusable groups of students that can be quickly selected when assigning assessments. Groups can be created based on individual students and used to streamline the assignment process for recurring testing groups.
1. Go to the Assessment menu and click Assessment Studio.
2. Select the Assign tab.
3. Click Student Groups.
4. Click New Group.
5. In the Group Name field, enter a name for the student group.
6. Optionally, enter a Description to provide additional details about the group’s purpose.
7. In the School pull-down, select the school that contains the students to be added to the group.
8. In the Search Students field, begin typing a student’s name or student ID.
9. In the Members section, select the student to add the student to the group.
10. Repeat the process to add additional students as needed. Selected students will display
11. Click Create Group.
Student groups can be used to quickly assign assessments to a predefined set of students. Once a student group has been created, it can be selected during the assignment process, eliminating the need to manually search for and select the same students each time an assessment is assigned.

2. Select the Assign tab.
3. Click New Assignment.
4. In the Label field, enter a name for the assignment. This field is optional and can be used to distinguish assignments that use the same assessment.
5. In the Assessment field, select the assessment to assign.
6. In the Tool Config field, select the delivery configuration that should be used for the assignment. To create a new configuration, click + New Config. See Creating Assessments > Explaining Delivery Configs for more information.
7. In the Default Student Schedule section, configure the assignment settings as needed:
Release Date: Enter the date the assignment becomes visible to students.
Release Time: Enter the time the assignment becomes visible to students.
Start Date and Start Time: Enter when students can begin taking the assessment.
End Date and End Time: Enter when the assessment will no longer be available.
Time Limit: Enter the amount of time students have to complete the assessment.
Max Attempts: Enter the maximum number of attempts allowed.
Allow Retake: Select this option to allow students to retake the assessment.
Restrict to Course Times: Select this option to limit assessment access to the student’s scheduled course period.
Retake Wait: Enter the amount of time students must wait before attempting a retake.
8. In the Audience section, select Student Group.
9. Select the student group you want to assign the assessment to.
10. Click Assign.
Assignments can be edited after they are created to update assessment settings, adjust scheduling options, modify student access, or change the audience receiving the assessment. Changes made to an assignment are applied immediately and affect future student access based on the updated settings.
1. Go to the Assessment menu and click Assessment Studio.
2. Select the Assign tab.
3. Find an assignment, and click Edit in the Actions column.
4. Make the necessary edits.
5. Click Save.
Assignments can be deleted when they are no longer needed. Deleting an assignment removes it from the Assignments list and prevents students from accessing the assigned assessment through that assignment.
1. Go to the Assessment menu and click Assessment Studio.
2. Select the Assign tab.
3. Find an assignment, and click Delete in the Actions column.
4. Click OK to remove the assignment, or click Cancel to keep the assignment.
The Proctor tab provides real-time visibility into student assessment activity and allows proctors to manage assessment sessions while testing is in progress. From this screen, proctors can monitor student progress, review assessment integrity alerts, communicate with students, and take actions such as pausing, locking, or submitting assessments.
1. Go to the Assessment menu and click Assessment Studio.
2. Select the Proctor tab.
3. The Active Session table displays the assessments with ongoing sessions. The table includes the Assessment title, the number of students taking the assessment, and the date and time the assessment was started.
4. Click Monitor to view student activity in the assessment.
5. Use the Search Students field to locate a specific student.
6. Use the status filters to display students based on their current assessment status:
All: Displays all students in the assessment session.
Active: Displays students who are actively taking the assessment.
Idle: Displays students who are currently inactive.
Paused: Displays students whose assessments have been paused.
Locked: Displays students whose assessment screens have been locked.
Flagged: Displays students with one or more assessment integrity events.
Submitted: Displays students who have submitted the assessment.
7. Review each student card to monitor the student’s progress through the assessment.
8. Click a student card to open the student details panel.
9. Review the Question Timings section to view timing information for the student’s assessment activity.
10. Review the Anti-Cheat Log section to view recorded assessment integrity events, such as tab switches or window focus changes.
11. To manage a student’s assessment session, click the More Options menu on the student’s card.
a. Click Pause to temporarily pause the student’s assessment session.
i. To resume, click the More Options Menu, and select Resume.
b. Click Lock Screen to prevent the student from interacting with the assessment until the session is unlocked.
i. To unlock the screen, click the More Options Menu, and select Unlock Screen.
c. Click Send Message to send a message directly to the student during the assessment session.
i. Enter the message in the text box.
ii. Click Send.
The student receives a pop up with the message.
d. Click Force Submit to immediately submit the student’s assessment using the responses entered up to that point.
After you click Force Submit, the assessment immediately closes and the student returns to their student portal.
12. Click the X in the student details panel to close the panel and return to the Proctor dashboard.
13. Use Announce to All to send a message to all students currently taking the assessment.
14. Use Force Submit All to immediately submit all active student assessments.
15. Click Report to view reporting information for the assessment session.
16. Click the Refresh button to update the proctoring dashboard with the latest student activity.
Bubble sheets can be generated and printed for assessments that will be administered on paper. The Bubble Sheets tab allows you to preview the output and generate a PDF for printing.
1. Go to the Assessment menu and click Assessment Studio.
2. Select the Bubble Sheets tab.
3. Select the assessment from the assessment pull-down.
4. In the Print For section, use the available filters to select the students for whom you want to print bubble sheets. You can filter by Class, School, Grade, Course / Section, Teacher, Period, and Students.
Leave the Students field blank to generate bubble sheets for every student who matches the selected filters.
5. Review the bubble sheet in the Preview section. The preview displays the assessment information, instructions, QR code, and answer choices.
6. Click Print PDF to generate the bubble sheets as a PDF.
7. Open the generated PDF, and use the browser or PDF viewer’s print options to print the bubble sheets.
The Scan tab allows you to upload completed bubble sheets and process student responses electronically. Bubble sheets can be uploaded as PDF or image files, or captured directly using a camera. Once processed, student responses are associated with the selected assessment and become available for scoring and reporting.
1. Go to the Assessment menu and click Assessment Studio.
2. Select the Bubble Sheets tab.
3. Click the Scan tab.
4. As you're working in the Scan tab, you can collapse the left panel by clicking the arrow.
Click the arrow again to expand the left panel when needed
5. Select the assessment from the assessment pull-down.
6. Select the Jump to Results after scan checkbox if you want to go directly to the Results tab after you finish scanning an assessment. If you'd prefer to stay on the Scan tab, don't select the Jump to Results after scan checkbox.
7. Option 1: To upload scanned bubble sheets from your computer click Upload File or drag a PDF or image file in the Drop more files here box.
7. Option 2: To scan completed bubble sheets, click Scan.
a. In the Scanner pop-up, select the scanner from the Scanner pull-down.
b. Select a Color option.
c. Select the file Format.
d. Enter a File Name.
e. Configure the scan options as needed:
Autofeeder: Select to scan pages using the scanner’s automatic document feeder.
Duplex: Select to scan both sides of each page.
Multi-Page PDF: Select to combine multiple scanned pages into one PDF file.
Show Scan Settings: Select to display additional scanner settings.
f. Click Scan.
g. Click Save to attach the scanned file to the assessment, or click Cancel to close the pop-up without saving.
8. Wait for the system to process the uploaded files and identify student responses.
9. Review the uploaded files. Each file displays a thumbnail preview, the number of pages, and its scan status.
10. If there are any errors, click Re-scan to scan the bubble sheets again.
11. To remove a set of bubble sheets, click the X next to the bubble sheets you want to remove.
12. To remove all uploaded scan files for the selected assessment, click Clear All Files.
The Results tab displays the results of scanned bubble sheets for the selected assessment. Use this tab to review each student’s score, verify the scan status, identify scan errors, add students whose bubble sheets were not scanned, and export the results to a CSV file.

3. Click the Results tab.
4. Select the assessment from the Assessment pull-down.
5. Review the scanned results for each student. The results table displays the student’s score, the number of questions answered, confidence level, and scan status.
6. To locate a specific student, enter the student’s name or ID in the Search field.
7. Click on a row or click the pencil icon next to a student's row to review their responses.
a. Review the detected response for each question. The table displays the question number, question type, detected answer, and confidence level.
b. If a detected response is incorrect, select the correct answer from the Override pull-down.
c. Use Prev and Next to navigate between students.
d. Select one of the available views to review the scan:
Table displays the detected responses in a table.
Sheet displays the student’s completed bubble sheet.
Scan displays the scanned image of the original document.
e. Click Save & Submit to save any overrides and update the student’s results.
8. To manually add a student to the results, select the student from the Add Student pull-down and click Add.
a. Manually enter the student's responses.
b. Click Save & Submit.
9. To review scan issues, click Scan errors to display any bubble sheets that could not be processed successfully.
10. To export the results, click Export CSV.
The Analytics tab provides an overview of scanned and missing student results for the selected assessment. Use this tab to identify students without scanned results, review student performance by question in the class heat map, and compare the distribution of responses for each question.
1. Go to the Assessment menu and click Assessment Studio.
2. Select the Bubble Sheets tab.
3. Click the Analytics tab.
4. Review the Scanned and Missing totals at the top of the screen.
5. In the Missing Students section, review the number of students who do not have scanned results for the assessment.
6. To submit zero-score sessions for students without scanned results, click Submit Zero Sessions.
7. In the Class Heat Map section, review each student’s results by question. Correct responses are displayed in green, and incorrect responses are displayed in red.
8. To locate a specific student in the heat map, enter the student’s name in the Search students field.
9. In the Question Distribution section, review the percentage of students who selected each response for every question.
The Configurations tab allows administrators to customize how Assessment Studio functions for different users and groups. Using configuration presets, you can control the fields, columns, action buttons, and modules available throughout the platform. Presets can be created for assessments, items, banks, and questions, then assigned to specific users, groups, or globally to standardize workflows, manage access, and tailor the Assessment Studio experience to meet district needs.
1. Go to the Assessment menu and click Assessment Studio.
2. Select the Configurations tab.
3. By default, the Configuration tab displays.
4. Select the content area for the preset, such as Assessments, Items, Banks, or Questions.
5. Click + New Preset.
6. Enter a name for the preset.
7. Enter a description, if needed.
8. Select Simulate to preview the preset.
9. Click each section to expand and configure the available options:
- Form Fields: Control which fields display when users add or edit content.
- List Columns: Control which columns display on the main list screen.
- Action Buttons: Control which actions users can access.
- Modules: Control which modules are available.
10. Configure each option as needed. Depending on the setting, you may be able to hide the option, make it read-only, require it, disable it, or update its label.
11. Click + Assign to assign the preset.
a. Select the scope for the assignment, such as a global assignment, configuration group, or individual user.
b. Select the user or group the preset should apply to.
c. Enter the priority and effective dates, if needed.
d. Click Assign.
12. Click Save Preset to save the configuration.
Configuration presets allow you to define default settings, and then assign those presets to specific users or groups. Assigning a preset ensures users have consistent default configurations when creating new content while allowing administrators to manage settings centrally.

The Form Fields section controls the fields that display when users create, view, or edit assessments.
Assessment Form Field Configuration Options
The following configuration options are available for each assessment form field:
1. Configure Show When to control when the field is displayed. Use the condition settings to show the field only when specific criteria are met, or leave it set to Always to display the field at all times.
2. Select Hidden to hide the field from users. Hidden fields do not display when users create or edit content.
3. Select Disabled to display the field but prevent users from interacting with or modifying its value.
4. Select Required to require users to enter a value before the record can be saved.
5. Select Read Only to display the field and its value but prevent users from editing it.
6. Use Label Override to replace the default field label with a custom label.
Available Assessment Form Fields
The following assessment form fields can be configured:
1. The Title field allows users to enter a title when they create or edit an assessment.
2. The Description field allows users to enter an assessment description when they create or edit an assessment.
3. The Instructions field allows users to enter instructions when they create or edit an assessment.
4. The Status field allows users to select a status when they create or edit an assessment.
The List Columns section controls the column titles that displays on the Assessments tab. You can keep existing column titles or enter alternative titles.
1. The ID setting controls the title of the ID column on the list page. The ID column shows the unique identifier assigned to each record. If desired, enter an alternative title for the ID column in the Label override field.
2. The Title setting controls the title of the Title column on the list page. The Title column shows the name of the assessment, item, bank, or question. If desired, enter an alternative title for the ID column in the Label override field.
3. The Status setting controls the title of the Status column on the list page. The Status column indicates the current status of the record, such as Draft, Published, or Archived. If desired, enter an alternative title for the Status column in the Label override field.
4. The Workflow setting controls the title of the Workflow column on the list page. The Workflow column shows workflow-related information associated with the record. If desired, enter an alternative title for the Workflow column in the Label override field.
5. The Items setting controls the title of the Items column on the list page. The Items column displays the number of items associated with the record, where applicable. If desired, enter an alternative title for the Items column in the Label override field.
6. The Bank setting controls the title of the Bank column on the list page. The Bank column identifies the bank associated with the record. If desired, enter an alternative title for the Bank column in the Label override field.
7. The Created By setting controls the title of the Created By column on the list page. The Created By column shows the user who created the record. If desired, enter an alternative title for the Created By column in the Label override field.
The Action Buttons section controls which actions are available to users when working with assessments.
Configuration Options for Action Buttons
The following configuration options are available for each assessment action button:
1. Select Hidden to hide the action button from users.
2. Select Disabled to display the button but prevent users from selecting it.

2. The Duplicate button allows users to create a copy of an existing assessment. If hidden or disabled, users cannot duplicate assessments.
3. The Import button allows users to import assessments and related content into Assessment Studio. If hidden or disabled, users cannot import content.
4. The Save button allows users to save changes to the assessment. If hidden or disabled, users cannot save changes.
5. The Delete button allows users to delete assessments. If hidden or disabled, users cannot delete assessments.
6. The Preview button allows users to preview the assessment before it is assigned. If hidden or disabled, users cannot preview assessments.
7. The Practice button allows users to launch an assessment in practice mode. If hidden or disabled, users cannot practice assessments before assigning them to students.
8. The Print button allows users to print assessments and related materials. If hidden or disabled, users cannot print assessments, answer keys, or other assessment materials.
9. The Builder button allows users to access the Assessment Builder. If hidden or disabled, users cannot generate assessments from existing items using the Builder tool.
10. The Translate button allows users to create and manage translated versions of assessment content. If hidden or disabled, users cannot translate content.
11. The Version History button allows users to view version history, compare revisions, and restore previous versions. If hidden or disabled, users cannot access version history or restore earlier versions of the content.
12. The Submit for Review button allows users to submit content for review as part of a workflow process. If hidden or disabled, users cannot submit content for review.
13. The Resubmit button allows users to resubmit content that has been returned or requires additional changes. If hidden or disabled, users cannot resubmit content for review.
14. The Withdraw button allows users to withdraw content from the review process. If hidden or disabled, users cannot withdraw content from review.
15. The Save Checkpoint button allows users to create a checkpoint within version history. If hidden or disabled, users cannot create checkpoints for the content.
16. The Restore Version button allows users to restore a previously saved version of the content. If hidden or disabled, users cannot restore previous versions.
17. The Add Tag button allows users to add tags to content. If hidden or disabled, users cannot add tags.
18. The Remove Tag button allows users to remove tags from content. If hidden or disabled, users cannot remove tags.
19. The Add to Bank button allows users to add content to a bank. If hidden or disabled, users cannot add content to banks.
20. The Remove from Bank button allows users to remove content from a bank. If hidden or disabled, users cannot remove content from banks.
21. The Add Config button allows users to add a delivery configuration to an assessment. If hidden or disabled, users cannot create additional delivery configurations.
22. The Delete Config button allows users to remove a delivery configuration from an assessment. If hidden or disabled, users cannot delete delivery configurations.
23. The Save Config button allows users to save changes to a delivery configuration. If hidden or disabled, users cannot save delivery configuration changes.
24. The Add Section button allows users to create sections within an assessment. If hidden or disabled, users cannot add sections to assessments.
25. The Pick Item button allows users to add existing items to an assessment. If hidden or disabled, users cannot select existing items for inclusion in assessments.
26. The Add Item button allows users to create and add a new item to an assessment. If hidden or disabled, users cannot create new items from within an assessment.
27. The Remove Item button allows users to remove items from an assessment. If hidden or disabled, users cannot remove items from assessments.
The Modules section controls which modules are available to users for the selected content type. Depending on the content area being configured, modules may provide access to related functionality such as reports, printing, bubble sheets, or other tools. Administrators can disable modules or replace the default module names with custom labels to tailor the user experience.
Module Configuration Options
The following configuration options are available for each assessment module:
1. Select Disabled to display the module but prevent users from accessing it.
2. Use the Label Overide field to replace the default label with a custom title.
Available Modules
The following modules can be configured for assessments:
1. The Reports module gives users access to reporting tools associated with the selected content type. When disabled, users cannot access the Reports module.
2. The Print / PDF module gives users access to printing and PDF generation options. When disabled, users cannot print content or generate PDF files.
3. The Bubble Sheets module gives users access to bubble sheet generation and related features. When disabled, users cannot access bubble sheet functionality.
The Delivery Config Fields section controls which fields display when users create or edit delivery configurations. You can hide, disable, or rename individual fields to simplify the interface and align it with your district’s workflow.
Configuration Options for Delivery Config Fields
The following configuration options are available for each delivery config field:
1. Select Hidden to hide the field from users.
2. Select Disabled to display the field but prevent users from using it.
3. Use the Label Overide field to replace the default field label with a custom title.
The configuration options are available for the following delivery config fields: Name, Start Date, End Date, Start Time, End Time, Restrict to Times, Restrict to Course Times, Include Weekends, Close at End of Period, Calculator, Line Reader, Text Highlighter, Answer Eliminator, Review Screen, Save & Continue, Zoom, Scratch Pad, Sticky Notes, Magnifier, Color Themes, Show Tool State in Report, Manual Activation, Delivery Mode, Time Limit, Require Answer to Advance, Score Visibility, Late Policy, Proctoring Level, Proctor Code, Text-to-Speech, TTS Auto-Read, Player Theme, and Set as Default. See Explaining Delivery Configs more info on what each field does.
The Default New Assessment Configs section allows you to define the default delivery configuration settings applied to newly created assessments. Configuring these defaults helps standardize assessment behavior and reduces the amount of manual setup required when creating assessments.
1. In the Default New Assessment Configs section, review the existing default configuration.
2. Select the Default check box to apply the configuration to new assessments by default.
3. Select the Accommodation preset check box if the configuration should be available as an accommodation preset.
4. Configure the available delivery settings, such as Delivery Mode, Time Limit, Max Attempts, Require Answer to Advance, Allow Retake, Score Visibility, Late Policy, Proctoring Level, Text-to-Speech, TTS Auto-Read, Calculator, and Review Screen. See Explaining Delivery Configs more info on each setting.
5. Click + Add Config to create an additional default configuration, if needed.

19. The Remove Question button allows users to remove questions from an item. If hidden or disabled, users cannot remove questions from items.
20. The Create Passage button allows users to create a new passage and attach it to an item. If hidden or disabled, users cannot create passages from within the item.
21. The Edit Passage button allows users to modify an existing passage attached to an item. If hidden or disabled, users cannot edit passage content.
22. The Link Passage button allows users to attach an existing passage to an item. If hidden or disabled, users cannot link existing passages to items.
23. The Unlink Passage button allows users to remove a passage from an item. If hidden or disabled, users cannot unlink passages from items.
24. The Save Passage button allows users to save changes made to a passage. If hidden or disabled, users cannot save passage changes.
25. The Save button allows users to save changes to the item. If hidden or disabled, users cannot save changes.
The Modules section controls which modules are available to users in items. Administrators can disable modules or replace the default module names with custom labels to tailor the user experience.
Module Configuration Options
The following configuration options are available for each item module:
1. Select Disabled to display the button but prevent users from selecting it.
2. Use the Label Overide field to replace the default button label with a custom title.
Available Modules
The following modules can be configured for items:
1. The Passages module gives users access to create and add Passage within items. When disabled, users cannot view, create, edit, or manage passages associated with items.
2. The Version History module gives users access to version history for items. When disabled, users cannot view item revisions, compare versions, create checkpoints, or restore previous versions. Version History module displays access to version history for items. When disabled, users cannot view item revisions, compare versions, create checkpoints, or restore previous versions.
The Form Fields section controls the fields that display when users create, view, or edit banks.
Bank Form Field Configuration Options
The following configuration options are available for each bank field:
1. Configure Show When for a field to control when the field is displayed. Use the condition settings to show the field only when specific criteria are met, or leave it set to Always to display the field at all times.
2. Select Hidden to hide the field from users. Hidden fields do not display when users create or edit content.

6. The Resubmit button allows users to resubmit content that has been returned or requires additional changes. If hidden or disabled, users cannot resubmit content for review.
7. The Withdraw button allows users to withdraw content from the review process. If hidden or disabled, users cannot withdraw content from review.
8. The Version History button allows users to view version history, compare revisions, and restore previous versions. If hidden or disabled, users cannot access version history or restore earlier versions of items.
9. The Save Checkpoint button allows users to create a checkpoint within version history. If hidden or disabled, users cannot create checkpoints for the content.

4. The DOK field displays the Depth of Knowledge (DOK) field used to classify the complexity of the question.
5. The Shuffle Answers field displays the option to randomize the order of answer choices when the question is presented to students.
6. The Status field displays the current status of the question, such as Draft, Published, or Archived.

Configuration Options for Question Types

The configuration options are available for the following question types: Multiple Choice, True / False, Essay, Inline Entry, Matching, Ordering, Numeric, Short Answer, Match Table, Selectable Text, Math, Cartesian Graph, Gridded Response, Number Line, Drawing, Hotspot, Gap Match, Associate, and File Upload.
The Audit tab allows administrators to review the configuration profile assigned to a staff member. Use this tab to verify a user’s configuration settings, troubleshoot access issues, and confirm that the appropriate configuration profile has been applied.
1. Go to the Assessment menu and click Assessment Studio.
2. Select the Configurations tab.
3. Select the Audit Tab.
4. In the search field, begin typing the name of the staff member whose configuration profile you want to review.
5. Select the staff member from the search results.
6. Review the selected user’s configuration profile and assigned settings.
The Activity tab displays a history of configuration-related activity in Assessment Studio. Use this tab to review system activity and filter events by type, action, or date range to locate specific changes or events.
1. Go to the Assessment menu and click Assessment Studio.
2. Select the Configurations tab.
3. Select the Activity Tab.
4. Review the System Activity list to view recorded configuration activity.
5. Optionally, use one or more of the following filters to narrow the results:
- Type: Select the type of activity to display.
- Action: Select the type of action to display, such as created, updated, or deleted activities.
- Start Date: Enter the beginning of the date range.
- End Date: Enter the end of the date range.
6. Click Filter to apply the selected filters.
7. Review the filtered activity results.
The Groups tab allows administrators to create and manage groups used to organize users and share configuration settings. Groups simplify configuration management by allowing administrators to assign and manage settings for multiple users at once.
1. Go to the Assessment menu and click Assessment Studio.
2. Select the Configurations tab.
3. Select the Groups Tab.
Use Config Groups to apply shared configuration settings.
1. To create a new group, click + New Group.
a. In the Title field, enter a name for the configuration group.
b. Optionally, enter a description in the Description field to explain the purpose of the group.
c. In the Membership Type section, select one of the following:
Static (manage members manually): Creates a group whose members are added and removed manually.
Dynamic (rule-based): Creates a group whose membership is determined automatically based on configured rules.
i. Select an attribute, such as School, Role (Profile Type), Profile Name, or APEX Permission.
ii. Select the applicable value for the selected attribute.
iii. Click + Add to add the rule to the group.
iv. Repeat these steps to add additional rules as needed. Users who match any of the configured rules are automatically included in the group.
d. Click Save to create the configuration group.
e. Click Cancel or the X to close the window without creating the group.
2. Review the existing groups. Each group displays its name, description, and group type.
3. To update a group, click Edit.
4. To see a list of users who are part of the group, click Members.
a. Enter a name in the search field to find a user.
b. After you've reviewed the list of users, click Done to return to the Config Group screen.
5. To delete a group, click Delete.
a. Click Delete to remove the group; click Cancel to keep the group and return to the Config Group screen.
The Compare tab allows administrators to compare configuration settings between two staff members or groups. Comparing configurations makes it easy to identify differences in permissions and builder settings, helping administrators verify configuration assignments and troubleshoot configuration issues.
1. Go to the Assessment menu and click Assessment Studio.
2. Select the Configurations tab.
3. Select the Compare Tab.
4. Under Subject A, select whether you want to compare a Staff member or Group, then search for and select the desired subject.
5. Under Subject B, select whether you want to compare a Staff member or Group, then search for and select the second subject.
6. Click Compare.
7. In the Permission Matrix section, select the builder that you want to compare from the pull-down, such as Assessments, Items, Banks, or Questions.
8. Click Load Matrix to display the comparison results.
9. Review the permission matrix to identify differences between the selected staff members or groups.
The View As tab allows administrators to preview how configuration settings appear to another user. This makes it easy to verify which configuration presets and default settings are applied based on a user’s role without signing in as that user.
1. Go to the Assessment menu and click Assessment Studio.
2. Select the Configurations tab.
3. Select the View As Tab.
4. In the Staff Member field, search for and select the user whose configuration settings you want to preview.
5. In the Builder Type pull-down, select the builder to preview. For example, you can preview the Assessment Builder, Item Builder, Bank Builder, and Question Builder.
6. Click Preview.
7. Review the configuration settings as they would appear to the selected user. Use this view to verify that the appropriate configuration presets, field settings, and defaults are being applied.
The My Defaults tab allows you to configure your personal default settings for Assessments, Items, Banks, and Questions. These settings determine the default values and field behavior used when creating new records. Personal defaults apply only to your account and do not affect other users. District-level configuration settings take precedence over personal defaults.
1. Go to the Assessment menu and click Assessment Studio.
2. Select the Configurations tab.
3. Select the My Defaults tab.
4. Select Assessments, Items, Banks, or Questions.
5. Configure the available settings as needed. The available options vary depending on the selected object. For detailed information about each configuration option, see Configuration Tab.
6. Changes are saved automatically and apply to new records that you create, unless overridden by district-level configuration settings.
The Settings tab contains district-level settings that control features available throughout Assessment Studio. These settings enable or disable functionality for all users, allowing administrators to configure how features are made available across the district.
1. Go to the Assessment menu and click Assessment Studio.
2. Select the Configurations tab.
3. Select the Settings tab.
4. Configure the desired settings. Settings include:
a. Allow Building Reports: When enabled, users with report access can create, save, and manage custom reports. When disabled, users are limited to the built-in reports available in Assessment Studio.
5. Changes are saved automatically and take effect immediately.
The Review tab allows you to review student assessment sessions. Users can review responses, adjust scores, push results to gradebooks, set up scaling, and more in the Review tab.
1. Go to the Assessment menu, and click Assessment Studio.
2. Select the Review tab.
3. Use the Search assessments field to find an assessment by entering search criteria.
4. Select a display option in the top-right corner of the screen:
a. Click Cards to display each assessment on a separate card.
b. Click Table to display the assessments in a table.
c. Click Compact to display a condensed list of assessments.
5. Review the information displayed for each assessment:
a. The assessment title displays at the top.
b. Additional assessment information and the due date display beneath the title.
c. The session label indicates the number of assessment sessions.
d. The grading status indicates whether all sessions have been graded.
6. Click Review for the applicable assessment to view its sessions.
7. Review the assessment summary at the top of the screen:
a. Total Sessions displays the total number of assessment sessions.
b. Needs Grading displays the number of sessions containing responses that require grading.
c. Class Average displays the average score for the assessment.
d. Grade Linked displays the number of sessions linked to the gradebook.
8. In the Views section, select how to review the assessment data:
a. Click All to view all students.
b. Click School to view the data by school.
c. Click Student to view the data by student.
d. Click Course to view the data by course.
9. Use the Search students field to find a specific student.
10. Click a status filter to limit the students displayed:
a. Click All to display all students.
b. Click Needs Grading to display students whose responses require grading.
c. Click Complete to display students who have completed the assessment.
d. Click Unreleased to display students whose results have not been released.
11. Review the student table. The table displays each students name, score, percentage, submission date and time, and applicable status labels.
12. Hover over a student to display additional options.
a. Click View to see the student's responses, adjust the student's score, and provide feedback.
i. In the Score field, edit the score for a response as needed.
ii. Optionally, enter Feedback if desired.
iii. Click Save to save the changes.
iv. Click Close to return to the review screen.
b. Click Override total score to edit the student's score.
i. Enter a new score.
ii. Click Set to save the new score.
iii. Click X to skip overriding the total score.
c. Click Score history to view a history of overriding the student's score.
A table displays the score before a change was made, the score after the change was made, when the change was made, and who made the change.
d. Click Recalculate score to calculate the score again.
e. Click Allow retake to allow the student to retake the assessment.
f. Click Lock score to prevent changes made to the score.
Click Unlock to allow changes made to the score.
g. Click Excuse session to exclude the student's session from aggregate stats and gradebook calculations.
i. Optionally, enter a reason for excusing the session.
ii. Click Excuse to excuse the session; click Cancel to keep the session and return to the review screen.
h. Click Discard session to permanently remove the student's session.
i. Optionally, enter a reason for discarding the session.
ii. Click Discard to discard the session; click Cancel to keep the session and return to the review screen.
13. To review and grade student sessions, click Grade Mode.
i. In the Score field, edit the score for a response as needed.
ii. Optionally, enter Feedback if desired.
iii. Click Save to save the changes.
iv. Click Close to return to the review screen.
14. To push all scores to the gradebook, click Gradebook.
a. Alternatively, to push scores to the gradebook for specific students, select the check box next to each student.
b. Click Gradebook right above the table to push the scores to those students' gradebook.
15. To release all assessment results to a specific audience, click Release.
a. Select all or select audiences by School and Course.
b. Click Release to release the results to the selected audience; click Cancel to skip releasing the results and return to the review screen.
16. To flag similar responses, click Similarity.
17. To configure score scaling options, click Scaling.
a. In the Grade Bands section, review the default percentage for each letter grade.
b. Enter the applicable values in the Custom % fields to adjust the grade bands. The percentage for an F is fixed at 0 and cannot be changed.
c. To adjust assessment scores using a curve, select an option in the Apply a Curve section:
i. Click + Points to add a specified number of points to each score.
ii. Click + Percent to increase each score by a specified percentage.
iii. Click × Factor to multiply each score by a specified factor.
iv. Click Target Mean to adjust the scores to a specified average.
v. Click √ Curve to apply a square root curve.
d. Enter a value based on the curve you selected.
e. Click Preview to review the effect of the grade bands or curve before applying the changes.
f. Review the Score Distribution section. This section displays the number of sessions, average score, minimum score, maximum score, and a chart of the score distribution.
g. Click Apply to All to apply the curve to all assessment sessions.
h. Click Save Grade Bands to save the custom grade bands.
i. To restore the original grade bands, click Reset to Default.
j. Click Close to exit the scaling options.
18. To notify the students about their sessions, select check boxes next to the students you want to notify.
To notify all students, select the check box at the top.
a. Click Notify.
b. Enter the message you want to sent to the students.
c. Click OK to send the message; click Cancel to skip sending the message and return to the review screen.
19. To rescore student sessions, select check boxes next to the students you want to rescore, then click Rescore.
To rescore all student sessions, select the check box at the top, then click Rescore.
20. To discard student sessions, select check boxes next to the student sessions you want to discard, then click Discard.
To discard all student sessions, select the check box at the top, then click Discard.
a. In the pop-up, click OK to discard the student sessions; click Cancel to keep the student sessions and return to the review screen.
21. Use AI to retrieve, filter, organize, and manage student assessment sessions. AI can also rescore individual sessions, discard sessions, and send scores to the gradebook.
22. Click Back to return to the list of assessments.
Assessment Studio supports importing assessment content from external sources, allowing you to quickly create assessments, items, and questions without building them manually. You can import content using a file, URL, or pasted text. Supported file formats include QTI packages, JSON, CSV, XML, and plain text files.
1. Go to the Assessment menu and click Assessment Studio.
2. Select the Import tab.
3. Click Start your first import. If previous imports exist, click New Import.
4. On the File tab, import an assessment via a file upload.
a. Click Browse File, and select a file. Supported file formats include QTI packages, JSON, CSV, XML, and plain text files.
5. To import an assessment from a web address, select the URL tab.
6. To import an assessment by pasting text, select Paste Text.
7. After the assessment is imported, you can preview the content.
a. Click Try It to see a preview of the assessment.
b. Click Edit to edit the assessment title.
c. Click on the assessment to see the list of questions included in the assessment.
d. Click on an individual question to preview the question.
e. Click Duplicate to make a copy of a question.
f. Click Edit to update a question.
8. When you're done previewing the imported assessment, click Select Items to configure how you want to import the items.
9. Enter a Batch Label to identify the import, such as the assessment name, upload date, or source file.
10. Select the Item Status for the imported items.
a. Select Draft to import the items as drafts.
b. Select Published to import the items as published.
11. Select a Duplicate Strategy to determine how duplicate content should be handled during the import.
a. Select Skip duplicates to imports only new content and ignore items that already exist.
b. Select Import as new to create new copies of all imported content, even if duplicates are found.
c. Select Replace existing to update existing content with the imported version when duplicates are found.
12. Select Dry run — preview only to preview the import without saving the content.
13. Review the assessment and item list.
14. Select the checkbox next to each assessment or item to include in the import, or select Select All to include all content.
15. Click Import to complete the import.
16. Review the import summary to confirm the content was imported successfully.
17. Use the available actions to continue working with the imported assessment:
a. Click Preview to review the assessment as students will see it.
b. Click Practice to launch a practice attempt of the assessment.
c. Click View History to view previous import jobs and their results.
d. Click Download Report to download a report containing details about the import.
e. Click View in Reports to open assessment reports related to the imported content.
f. Click Import Again to start a new import using the same process.
g. Click Share for Review to generate a link that you can share for review and feedback.
When needed, users can remove an imported assessment.
1. Go to the Assessment menu and click Assessment Studio.
2. Select the Import tab.
3. Find the assessment you want to remove, then click Rollback.
4. In the Rollback Import pop-up, select a type of rollback:
a. Select Soft delete to mark the imported records as deleted. The records remain in the system and can be restored by an administrator if needed.
b. Select Hard delete to permanently remove the imported records, including assessments, items, questions, passages, banks, and associated assets. This action cannot be undone.
5. Click Confirm Rollback to finish removing the imported assessment, or click Cancel to keep the imported assessment.
Export items, assessments, and banks to share content with other systems, create backups, or transfer content between environments. APEX Studio supports exporting assessments and their associated content in a portable format that can be imported into another APEX Studio instance or a compatible assessment platform.
1. Go to the Assessment menu and click Assessment Studio.
2. Select the Export tab.
3. Click Start your first import. If previous Exports exist, click New Export.
4. Select the Items tab.
5. Search and find the items you want to export.
Use the status drop-down to filter items by All statuses, Published, or Draft.
6. Select the check box next to each item you want to export or click Select all to export all items.
7. Click Preview Export.
8. On the Export Preview screen, click Try It to preview the questions included in the assessment.
9. Deselect the check box next to any questions you don't want to include in the export.
10. Click Configure.

Print assessments to create paper-based testing materials, answer keys, teacher copies, or bubble sheets. The Print tool allows you to select one or more assessments, customize the output format and layout, and preview the document before generating the final print file. Options are available to include assessment content, answer keys, standards, metadata, cover pages, and other supporting information.
1. Go to the Assessment menu and click Assessment Studio.
2. Select the Print tab.
3. Select a saved Preset, if available.
To save the current configuration for future use, click Save.
a. Enter a name for the preset.
b. Click OK to save the preset; click Cancel to skip creating the preset.
4. Select one or more assessments from the Assessments list.
5. Use the Filter assessments field to search for a specific assessment, if needed.
6. Click All to select all assessments; click None to deselect all assessments.
7. Select the output Format: PDF or Word.
8. Select a Theme to apply to the printed assessment.
- Select Minimal to apply a simplified print layout with minimal formatting.
- Select Branded to apply a print layout that includes additional branding elements.
- Select Formal to apply a structured print layout designed for official or standardized assessment documents.
9. Select a Form option.
10. Select a Numbering option to determine how questions are numbered in the printed assessment.
- Select Global to use continuous numbering across the entire assessment. For example, 1a, 2a, 2b, etc.
- Select Per Section to restart numbering within each section of the assessment. For example, 1.1, 1.2, 2.1, etc.
11. In Answer Blanks, select how answer space is displayed for questions.
- Select Lines to display horizontal lines for students to write their responses.
- Select Boxes to display individual answer boxes for students to enter their responses.
- Select Grid to display a grid-style response area that provides structured space for student answers.
12. For Layout, select 1 Column or 2 Columns.
13. Enter a Watermark, if needed.
14. Select Teacher Copy to include teacher-specific information in the printed assessment.
15. Select Show Standards to display standards alignments for assessment items.
16. Select Show Metadata to display metadata associated with assessment content.

The Reports tab provides a collection of built-in reports that help administrators analyze assessment results, monitor student performance, evaluate standards mastery, and identify trends across assessments. Reports include interactive charts, tables, and visualizations that provide both high-level summaries and detailed item- and student-level data. In addition to the built-in reports, users can create custom reports tailored to their reporting needs, providing flexibility when analyzing assessment data.
Assessment Studio allows you to create custom reports tailored to your reporting needs. When creating a report, you can select the data to include, apply filters, and configure the layout to generate reports that provide meaningful insights into assessment performance and student results.
1. Go to the Assessment menu and click Assessment Studio.
2. Select the Reports tab.
3. Click + New Report.
4. In the Data Source section, select the type of data to include in the report:
- Session Scores: Displays student assessment session data, such as student ID, name, completion date, and score.
- Item Responses: Displays student response data for individual assessment items.
- Import History: Displays assessment import data.
- Item Analysis: Displays item-level performance data.
5. In the Add Source section, click + Add Source to add another related data source to the report, such as Student Info. Click the X next to a source to remove it.
6. In the Report Type section, select how the report should update:
- Live Report: Re-runs the report each time it is opened.
- Snapshot: Saves the current report rows and displays the data as it appeared at the time the snapshot was captured.
7. Review the Preview section at the bottom of the window. The preview updates based on the selected source and displays sample report columns and rows.
8. Use the Live Preview pull-down to change the preview layout, if needed. Select one of the following layouts:
- Default Table: Displays the report data in a standard table format.
- Bar Chart: Displays the report data as a bar chart.
- Line Chart: Displays the report data as a line chart.
- Pie / Donut Chart: Displays the report data as a pie chart or donut chart to visualize proportions.
- Mastery Grid: Displays assessment mastery data in a color-coded grid.
- Standard Insights: Displays standards performance using the Standard Insights visualization.
- Student Item Analysis: Displays the data using the Student Item Analysis report layout.
- Standards Performance: Displays the data using the Standards Performance report layout.
9. Click Next to continue to the Columns step.
10. On the Columns step, select the fields to include in the report.
a. Dimensions determine how the report data is grouped. Select one or more fields under Group Rows By to organize the report, such as by assessment, student, completion date, or status.
b. Measures determine the values displayed in the report. Select one or more fields under Aggregated Values to include metrics, such as scores, counts, completion status, or other calculated values.
11. Use the Search box above either column to quickly locate a field.
12. Review the Live Preview at the bottom of the window to see how the selected columns affect the report output. Change the Live Preview layout, if needed, to view the data using a different table or chart format.
13. Click Next to continue to the Filters step.
14. On the Filters step, configure the criteria used to limit and organize the report data.
15. In the Context Filters section, click + Add Filter to add filters that limit the records included in the report. For example, you can filter the report by assessment, status, completion date, or other available fields.
16. If additional data sources were added to the report, use the Student Info, School Info, or other joined source filter sections to filter records based on fields from those data sources.
17. In the One Per section, configure how duplicate records are handled:
- Distinct on: Select one or more fields to return only one row for each unique value or combination of values.
- Order by: Select one or more fields to determine which record is retained when duplicate values exist. Optionally, choose ASC (ascending) or DESC (descending) for the sort order.
18. In the Result Filters section, click + Add Result Filter to filter the report based on aggregated values. Select a field, such as Assessment ID, Completed, Score, or Student ID, then define the filter criteria to limit the results returned by the report.
19. When finished configuring the filters, click Next to continue to the Present step.
20. On the Present step, select how the report data should be displayed.
21. In the Presentation section, select one of the available layouts:
- DataTable: Displays the report data in a table format.
- Default Table: Displays the report using the default table layout.
- Bar Chart: Displays the report data as a bar chart.
- Line Chart: Displays the report data as a line chart.
- Pie / Donut Chart: Displays the report data as a pie chart or donut chart.
- Mastery Grid: Displays assessment mastery data in a color-coded grid.
- Standard Insights: Displays standards performance using the Standard Insights visualization.
- Student Item Analysis: Displays the report using the Student Item Analysis layout.
- Standards Performance: Displays the report using the Standards Performance layout.
22. Depending on the selected presentation type, configure the available display options.
23. Review the Live Preview at the bottom of the window to verify that the report displays as expected.
24. Click Next to continue to the Save step.
25. On the Save step, configure the information used to identify the custom report.
26. In the Report Name field, enter a unique name for the report.
27. Optionally, enter a description in the Description field to summarize the purpose or contents of the report.
28. Optionally, add one or more tags in the Tags field to help organize and locate the report. Type a tag and press Enter to add it.
29. Review the Live Preview at the bottom of the window to verify that the report displays as expected.
30. Click Save Report to create the custom report. The report will be added to the Reports tab and can be opened and run as needed.
The Statistical Summary report provides a high-level overview of assessment performance by displaying descriptive statistics, score distribution, and individual student results. Use this report to quickly evaluate overall assessment performance, identify trends in student scores, and review detailed results for students who completed the assessment.
1. Go to the Assessment menu and click Assessment Studio.
2. Select the Reports tab.
3. Select the Statistical Summary report.
4. Search and select an assessment, then click Run Report.
5. Review the Descriptive Statistics section, which summarizes overall assessment performance. The following metrics are displayed:
- N: The number of completed assessment submissions included in the report.
- Mean: The average assessment score.
- Median: The middle score in the dataset.
- Min: The lowest score.
- Max: The highest score.
- Std Dev: The standard deviation, indicating how widely scores vary from the average.
- Q1 (25%): The first quartile, representing the 25th percentile of scores.
- Q3 (75%): The third quartile, representing the 75th percentile of scores.
- IQR: The interquartile range, showing the spread of the middle 50% of scores.
- Cronbach’s α: A measure of the assessment’s internal consistency or reliability.
6. Review the Score Distribution section to visualize how assessment scores are distributed. The chart displays the interquartile range (IQR), median, and mean, making it easier to identify score patterns and overall performance.
7. Review the Student Results table to view each student’s assessment results. The table displays the student ID, score, assessment status, and completion date and time.
8. To download the report, click Export CSV.
9. To print the report, click Print.
The Standards Performance report summarizes student performance on the standards assessed within a selected assessment. Use this report to evaluate overall mastery of each standard, compare student performance across standards, and identify specific assessment items that contributed to each standard’s results.
1. Go to the Assessment menu and click Assessment Studio.
2. Select the Reports tab.
3. Select the Statistical Summary report.
4. Search and select an assessment, then click Run Report.
5. Review the Overview section at the top of the report. This section summarizes the assessment and displays the following metrics:
- Students Assessed: The number of students included in the report.
- Standards Covered: The number of standards assessed.
- Items Assessed: The number of assessment items aligned to standards.
- Class Avg Overall: The overall class average for the assessment.
6. Review the Standards Overview section to compare average performance across the standards included in the assessment. Each bar displays the average percentage earned for a standard.
7. Review the Student Performance table to view individual student results by standard. The table displays student information along with the percentage earned for each assessed standard.
8. Review the Standard Breakdown section to view detailed performance information for each standard. For each standard, the report displays:
- The overall average score for the standard.
- The associated proficiency level.
- Each assessment item aligned to the standard and the average percentage earned for that item.
9. To download the report, click Export CSV.
10. To print the report, click Print.
The Response Distribution report provides an item-by-item analysis of student responses for a selected assessment. Use this report to identify which questions students answered correctly, partially correctly, or incorrectly, evaluate question difficulty, and analyze response patterns to identify potential instructional needs.
1. Go to the Assessment menu and click Assessment Studio.
2. Select the Reports tab.
3. Select the Response Distribution report.
4. Search and select an assessment, then click Run Report.
5. Review the summary metrics at the top of the report:
- Students: The number of students included in the report.
- Questions: The total number of questions on the assessment.
- Avg Correct: The average percentage of correct responses across all questions.
6. Review the Score Distribution by Item chart to compare student performance across assessment questions. Each bar represents a question and is color-coded to indicate the percentage of:
- Correct responses (green)
- Partial responses (yellow)
- Incorrect responses (red)
7. Review the Response Distribution table to analyze performance for each question. The table includes the following information:
- Question: The question number. Icons next to the question indicate the available answer choices.
- Difficulty: The calculated difficulty level for the question.
- Correct %: The percentage of students who answered the question correctly.
- Correct: The number of students who earned full credit.
- Total: The total number of student responses submitted for the question.
- Answer Choice Columns (A, B, C, D, etc.): Displays the number of students who selected each answer choice. Correct answers are highlighted in green, partially correct responses in yellow, and incorrect responses in red.
Click a value in an answer choice column to view the list of students who selected that response.
- No Resp: The number of students who did not submit a response for the question.
8. Optionally, select Show % above the table to display percentages instead of response counts.
9. To download the report, click Export CSV.
10. To print the report, click Print.
The Participation report displays the completion status of students assigned to an assessment. Use this report to quickly identify which students have completed the assessment, monitor participation, and review when completed assessments were submitted.
1. Go to the Assessment menu and click Assessment Studio.

3. Select the Participation report.
4. Search and select an assessment.
5. Option 1: To run the report as it is, click Run Report.
5. Option 2: To customize the report, click Customize.

6. Review the Participation table. The table displays the following information:
- Student ID: The student’s unique identifier.
- First Name: The student’s first name.
- Last Name: The student’s last name.
- Status: Indicates whether the student has completed the assessment.
- Completed At: Displays the date and time the student submitted the assessment.
7. Use the information in the report to identify students who have and have not completed the assessment.
8. To download the report, click Export CSV.
9. To print the report, click Print.
The Assessment Mastery report provides a matrix view of student performance across assessments. Use this report to quickly identify which students have demonstrated mastery, are developing proficiency, or have not yet mastered the assessed content. Color-coded results make it easy to identify performance trends across multiple assessments.
1. Go to the Assessment menu and click Assessment Studio.
2. Select the Reports tab.
3. Select the Response Distribution report.
4. Search and select an assessment.
5. Option 1: To run the report as it is, click Run Report.
5. Option 2: To customize the report, click Customize.

6. Review the legend at the top of the report:
- Mastered (≥80%): Indicates the student achieved a score of 80% or higher.
- Developing (60–79%): Indicates the student scored between 60% and 79%.
- Not Mastered (<60%): Indicates the student scored below 60%.
- No Data: Indicates that no assessment results are available.
7. Review the Assessment Mastery matrix. Each row represents a student, and each column represents an assessment. The value in each cell displays the student’s score for the assessment and is color-coded based on the mastery level shown in the legend.
8. Use the report to compare student performance across assessments and identify students who may require additional support or enrichment.
9. To download the report, click Export CSV.
10. To print the report, click Print.
The Standard Insights report provides a visual breakdown of student performance by standard across multiple organizational levels. Use this report to identify performance trends at the district, school, course, section, and student levels, allowing you to quickly pinpoint strengths, learning gaps, and areas that may require additional instructional support.
1. Go to the Assessment menu and click Assessment Studio.
2. Select the Reports tab.
3. Select the Response Distribution report.
4. Search and select an assessment.
5. Option 1: To run the report as it is, click Run Report.
5. Option 2: To customize the report, click Customize.

6. Review the Drilldown legend on the left side of the report. The colors identify the level represented by each bar:
- District: Purple
- School: Green
- Course: Yellow
- Section: Blue
- Student: Red
7. Review the visualization on the right side of the report. Each horizontal bar represents the average performance for the corresponding district, school, course, section, or student. The percentage displayed at the end of each bar indicates the average score for that level.
8. Click a bar to drill down to the next level of detail. For example, click a district bar to view schools within the district, then continue drilling down through courses, sections, and individual students.
9. To download the report, click Export CSV.
10. To print the report, click Print.
The Student Item Analysis report provides a detailed view of student performance across assessment items and standards. Use this report to compare overall student scores, analyze performance by standard, review individual responses, and identify specific questions or standards that may require additional instruction.

- Avg: The average score earned for the standard.
7. Use the chart on the right to review overall performance by school. Select Distribution to view proficiency levels or Average Score to compare average scores across schools.
8. Review the Student Item Analysis table. The table displays:
- ID: The student’s unique identifier.
- Name: The student’s name.
- School: The school in which the student is enrolled.
- Score: The student’s overall assessment score, including both the percentage earned and the point total.
- Question Columns: Each column represents an assessment item grouped beneath its associated standard. The column header displays the question number and the average percentage earned for that item. Each cell displays the student’s response and is color-coded to indicate performance.
9. Click a student’s response in the table to open the question details and review the student’s submitted answer.
10. Click a standard in the Standards Analysis section to highlight the assessment items associated with that standard.
11. To download the report, click Export CSV.
12. To print the report, click Print.
The Statistical Summary by Item report provides statistical analysis for each question on an assessment. Use this report to evaluate item quality, measure question difficulty and discrimination, and identify questions that may need to be revised or replaced.

- Question Text: The text of the assessment question.
- P-Score (%): The percentage of students who answered the question correctly.
- Point Biserial: The correlation between performance on the question and overall assessment performance. Higher values indicate the question more effectively distinguishes between higher- and lower-performing students.
- Discrimination Index: A measure of how well the question differentiates between students who performed well on the assessment and those who performed poorly.
- Difficulty: The calculated difficulty level of the question.
- Quality: An overall evaluation of the question based on its statistical performance.
- Discrimination: A rating that summarizes the question’s ability to distinguish between different levels of student performance.
7. To download the report, click Export CSV.
8. To print the report, click Print.
Reports in Assessment Studio can be edited at any time to update their data source, columns, filters, presentation, or other configuration settings. Editing a report allows you to refine existing reports as reporting needs change without creating a new report from scratch.
1. Go to the Assessment menu and click Assessment Studio.
2. Select the Reports tab.
3. Select the report you want to edit.
4. Click Edit to select a different Assessment or to change how the data is presented.
5. Click Open in Builder to make additional edits as needed.
6. Click Save Report to save the edits.
Reports in Assessment Studio can be exported for offline analysis, sharing, or recordkeeping. Exporting a report downloads the report data as a CSV file, allowing you to review the results in spreadsheet applications or use the data for additional reporting and analysis.

4. Click Export CSV to download the report as a CSV file.
Reports in Assessment Studio can be printed to create a hard copy or PDF for meetings, recordkeeping, or sharing with others.

4. Click Print to print a hardcopy or download a PDF.
Reports in Assessment Studio can be duplicated to create a copy of an existing report. Duplicating a report preserves its configuration, including the selected data source, columns, filters, and presentation settings, making it easy to create a new report based on an existing one without starting from scratch.
1. Go to the Assessment menu and click Assessment Studio.
2. Select the Reports tab.
3. Select the report you want to duplicate.
4. Click the More Options menu, then click Duplicate.
A copy of the report automatically appears in Saved Reports.
Reports in Assessment Studio can be deleted when they are no longer needed. Deleting a report permanently removes it from the Saved Reports list, helping keep your reports organized and ensuring only relevant reports remain available.
1. Go to the Assessment menu and click Assessment Studio.
2. Select the Reports tab.
3. Select the report you want to delete.
4. Click the More Options menu, then click Delete.
5. Click OK to remove the report; click Cancel to keep the report.
Reports in Assessment Studio can be scheduled to run automatically at a recurring interval. Scheduled reports help ensure that report data is generated consistently without requiring users to manually run the report each time.
1. Go to the Assessment menu and click Assessment Studio.
2. Select the Reports tab.
3. Select the report you want to schedule.
4. Click the More Options menu, then click Schedule.
5. In the Schedule Report window, select Enable Schedule.
6. In the Frequency pull-down, select how often the report should run.
7. In the Delivery section, select one or more delivery methods:
- Save Snapshot: Saves the report results as a snapshot each time the scheduled report runs.
- In-app Notification: Sends an in-app notification when the scheduled report has been generated.
8. Click Save to schedule the report.
In addition to editing, exporting, printing, duplicating, and deleting reports, the More Options menu provides several tools for managing and sharing reports.
1. Go to the Assessment menu and click Assessment Studio.
2. Select the Reports tab.
3. Select a report.
4. Click the More Options menu for additional report actions such as the following:
a. Select Save Snapshot to save the current report results as a snapshot, preserving the data exactly as it appears at the time it is saved.
b. Select View Snapshots to display previously saved snapshots for the report.
c. Select Pin to Dashboard to add the report to a dashboard for quick access.
d. Select Save as Template to save the report configuration as a reusable template that can be used to create additional reports.
i. Enter a Name, Description, and Tags.
ii. Click Save Template.
iii. The template is now available in Starter Templates.
