This checklist is designed to guide districts and schools in completing the setup for standards in Focus.
1. In the Setup menu, click Marking Periods.
2. Review the marking period setup, ensuring marking periods are set up to the Quarter level.
3. For standards grading, ensure the Standards Grade Posting Begins and Standards Grade Posting Ends dates are configured for each applicable marking period.
4. If needed, edit existing marking periods. Click Save after making any changes.

1. In the Grades menu, click Grading Scales & Comments.
2. In the Report Card Grades tab, review the setup for each grading scale. Make edits if desired, and click Save.
3. If needed, add a new grading scale by clicking the plus icon and entering the grading scale information in the blank row of the table. Click Save.

1. In the Grades menu, click Grading Scales & Comments.
2. Click the Report Card Comments tab.
3. Review the existing report card comments. Make edits if desired, and click Save.
4. To add a new comment, enter the Code and Title in the blank row. Click Save.

1. In the Assessment menu, click Standards.
2. To review existing standards, click the Subject Area, Grade Level, Strand, and Cluster links to view the standards housed beneath them. Make edits to the setup fields as desired, and click Save.
3. To add a new subject area, grade level, strand, or cluster, locate where in the hierarchy to place the item and click the Add a new... link.
4. Enter a Title for the subject area, grade level, strand, or cluster.
5. Enter a Short Name, if desired.
6. Enter a Sort Order.
7. Click Save.
8. To add a standard, locate the level in the hierarchy to add the standard and click Add a new standard at this level.
9. Enter a Title for the standard.
10. Enter a Short Name, if desired.
11. Enter a Sort Order.
12. Enter a Description of the standard.
13. To hide the standard from report cards and the Post Standard Grades screen, select Hide Standard from Report Cards.
14. Select the Grading Scale to use to grade this individual standard if it differs from the Standards Grading Scale set on the section.
15. If the standard will only be used for specific marking periods, select the appropriate marking period check boxes.
16. Click Save.

1. In the Assessment menu, click Assign Standards to Courses.
2. Select the course on the left side of the screen by clicking the Course Num link, or to select multiple courses, select the check boxes next to each course in the list.
3. Click the subject area, grade level, strand, and cluster links to locate the standards to assign to the course.
4. Select the check box next to a subject area, grade level, strand, or cluster to select all the standards housed within it, or select the individual standard check boxes.
5. After selecting the standards, click Add.
6. In the confirmation message, click OK.

1. In the Scheduling menu, click Courses & Sections.
2. Click the Subject, Course, and Section.
3. Select the Standards Grading Scale.
4. Click Save.
